**General Position Summary**:
The Investigations Officer ensures consumer protection in motor vehicle related transactions in the province of BC by enforcing and administering the Motor Dealer Act and Business Practices and Consumer Protection Acts. This position delivers the VSA’s Purpose to build public confidence in the industry by conducting thorough, fair and quality investigations, ensuring a safe and reliable buying experience. The Investigations Officer works as part of an integrated team conducting investigations of motor dealers and licensees for non-compliance matters to ensure consumer protection in motor vehicle transactions in the Province. Using a high degree of initiative, professionalism, discretion and superior dispute resolution skills, the Investigations Officer educates and conducts formal compliance inspections of all licensees.

**Key Accountabilities and Deliverables**:
The Investigator is expected to:
1. Effectively conduct investigations and gather evidence in a consistently fair, thorough, objective and professional manner wherever needed within the Province.

2. Collect, analyze and organize large amounts of complex and technical information and physical evidence into detailed, high quality reports and correspondence. Reports should set out facts of a case, objectively and accurately, followed by a well-reasoned analysis and objective assessment. of the evidence, while maintaining appropriate investigative notes.

3. Investigate all consumer and industry complaints.

4. Promote the VSA’s mission and mandate in all communication with consumers and stakeholders of the automotive industry.

5. Meet VSA Investigations department service standards.

6. Assist in dispute resolution in a calm, fair and professional manner to resolve consumer complaints and claims and gain voluntary compliance.

**Education, Certification and Experience**:
▪ Relevant diploma or certificate in investigation skills, such as criminology, forensic science, or administrative or criminal law or a combination of relevant course work and experience.

▪ A minimum of three years’ experience (within the last five years) in a related field as an investigator who is part of a major investigation team responsible for conducting serious or complex investigations leading to judicial or quasi
- judicial sanctions.

▪ University degree in law, criminology, legal studies or a related discipline.

▪ Self-motivated and able to manage time and workload pressures independently.

▪ Ability to work in a team environment.

▪ Ability to network professionally with the public, automotive industry stakeholders, law enforcement and Government agencies.

▪ Ability to create and maintain a positive work environment.

▪ Ability to organize and manage large volume investigative files.

▪ Experience working with Legislation, Acts and Regulations.

▪ Ability to work from home from time-to-time (remote).

▪ Computer skills including word processing and use of databases such as:
Microsoft’s Customer Relations Management (CRM) system.

**Special Requirements**:
▪ Must pass a criminal record check.

▪ Must pass a skill/knowledge test and a pre-employment assessment test.

▪ Weekend work and travel within the province may be required.

▪ Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement and adhere to BC privacy legislation.
