Manager, Academic Affairs

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Law, the Manager, Academic Affairs & Students Services is responsible for the administrative functions related to the Faculty's programs. Together with a team of five support staff, the Manager ensures that the academic advice and decisions of the Faculty of Law, its Dean, and Associate Dean are implemented.
**Position summary**:
- Manage the Academic Affairs and Student Services portfolio of the Faculty. Supervise five employees.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Associate Dean when they are absent or unable to perform their duties.
- Strategize and collaborate with other student services leaders university-wide.
- Serve as the Faculty's Registrar. Oversee all aspects of registration, specifically approving exam deferral requests, timetabling, room assignments, exam scheduling, priority registration, waitlists, and class lists.
- Supervise and ensure that tasks required for the operation of the academic program are completed on time and that students have access to relevant career advising.
- Serve as the Faculty's Representative with the National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals.
- Ensure that applicable academic and accreditation requirements are respected.
- Ensure faculty and staff have access to appropriate technology support.
- Make certain that students have access to support to overcome barriers to their legal education.
- Ensure that students are aware of the Faculty's curriculum requirements and academic regulations.
- Advise the Associate Dean on necessary changes to the Regulations and the implementation of new academic initiatives.
- Process and make decisions on degree audits.
- Approve exchange programs and letters of permission, specifically to ensure compliance with degree requirements. Liaise with UNB Global Learning and Engagements regarding exchange programs.
- Coordinate graduation and advancement issues. Determine eligibility to graduate and to write special examinations.
- Draft and publish the Faculty Guide, including updates and changes to Faculty Regulations.
- Handle requests to hire students to support the academic program for the Academic Affairs portfolio.
- Consult with the Faculty of Management with respect to coordination of MBA/JD program requirements.
- Update and monitor policies and procedures for maintaining and disposing of student records.
- Administer the Faculty's prizes. Determine the recipient, create new prizes, and modify/edit existing prizes.
- Such other tasks and duties as assigned. Overtime work may be required.
**Requirements/Skills**:
- A law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from a Canadian law school, with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
- Ability and initiative to identify and solve problems as they arise. Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Strong organizational, analytical, multitasking, prioritization, and supervisory skills required.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively to meet critical deadlines.
- Able to forge working relationships with a wide variety of academic and student services units on campus.
- Experience communicating with students concerning academic or employment matters.
- Experience managing a department in a small or medium-sized organization with multiple employees and deliverables would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the university sector or public institutions, including their policies and processes, would be an asset. Previous experience working in a law school is an asset.
