**Mandate**

**_Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute_** and our valued patients require a Physicians Assistant that will work alongside Sports Medicine/Concussion Physicians and The Metabolic Clinic during consultations, follow-ups, palpation guided procedures, and ultrasound guided procedures.

Adding a PA to our clinical practice is expected to greatly decrease wait times, and improve continuity of care with respect to a large population dealing with osteoarthritis, acute concussions, chronic concussion symptoms, metabolic counselling, and diabetes counselling.

The PA’s clinical expectations is as follows:

- **_Medical expert:_** Perform and complete assessment of a patient presenting with musculoskeletal issues/ concussions and formulate a clinical treatment plan.

Implementing effective treatment plans that include preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions.
- **_Procedural Skills:_** Demonstrate and assist with procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic - including joint injections and ultrasound guided procedures.
- **_Communicate:_** Accurately elicit and synthesize relevant information and perspectives of patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals. Convey accurate oral, written, and electronic information about a medical encounter to optimize clinical decision-making, patient safety and confidentiality.
- **_Educates_** patients about the diagnosis, interventions, and management plan for medical issues. Discusses risks/ benefits of procedures and post-procedural care for palpation and/ or ultrasound guided procedures.
- **_Utilizes_** sterile techniques to prepare procedural trays and medical/ injection supplies;
- **_Adheres_** to PA responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and KOPI’s Policy & Procedures manual

**Qualifications and Experience**

**_Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute_** has settled into a new state-of-art facility and we continue to receive a high volume of referral from Eastern Ontario’s Family Physicians. Criteria to qualify for this role include:

- Graduate of a Physicians Assistant Program (Canadian/ US) or equivalent;
- Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification of Canada or National commission on the Certification of Physicians Assistants (US);
- Eligible to work in Canada/ Ontario;
- Advanced musculoskeletal knowledge;
- Interest in Comprehensive concussion care;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in all oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues, and other health disciplines;
- Established organizational and analytical skills with a high attention to accuracy and detail;
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning.
