JOB DESCRIPTION - **Sports Centre Facility Operator - Refrigeration with Class B License**
Reporting directly to the Sports Centre Operations Manager, the Facility Operator is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of ice surfaces and assists the Operations Team in the overall operation and maintenance of the Sports Centre. Duties include, but are not limited to, oversight of the refrigeration plant, operating the ice resurfacer and other equipment related to rink operations in a safe and efficient manner; building repairs and janitorial duties; set-up and clean-up of general areas and multipurpose space within the facility; and directing and supervising part-time facility operations staff on shift.
**Responsibilities of the Sports Centre Facility Operator**:
- Operate ice resurfacer and related equipment to maintain ice, patch holes, flood arena, and edge perimeter of ice surface.
- Refrigeration plant readings and maintenance on shift as per TSSA Operating guidelines.
- Use of refrigeration software to ensure optimal operation in conjunction with the Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor.
- Set-up/clean-up various Sports Centre areas for meetings, special events and general use.
- Complete general building maintenance including painting, minor repairs and janitorial duties.
- Perform ground maintenance such as snow shoveling, snow blowing and salting as required
- Direct and supervise part-time Sports Centre drivers, attendants and cleaners.
- Maintain related work and activity records including logs and maintenance records.
- Maintain assigned inventory of supplies and equipment and report needs to manager.
- Communicate effectively with other staff, and report any problems to the Sports Centre Operations Manager and/or Operations Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Work soundly with Operations and Sports Centre team by communicating effectively and contributing to a positive work environment.
- Maintain awareness of legislation pertaining to the operations sector.
- Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Assist when necessary in all other areas of Western Fair District.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
**Skills/Qualifications**
- High School Diploma
- TSSA Class B Refrigeration Operators Licence
- Knowledge of equipment and building maintenance
- 1-2 years’ experience in the arena industry
- Excellent communication, problem solving and customer service skills
- First Aid and WHMIS training would be considered an asset
- Certified Ice Technician designation would be considered an asset
**Other Responsibilities**:
- Work as a team player promoting a positive and professional work environment and conduct role with integrity and respect.
- Act as an ambassador throughout the community, positively representing the Western Fair District.
- Abide by the policies and procedures of Western Fair District
- Other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of the Western Fair District
**Working Conditions**
- Ability to work evenings and weekends including some holidays if needed.
- Environment - Moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity.
- Heavy lifting may be required.
