Casual Child Care Worker (Substitute)

Casual Child Care Workers do not work alone in a room. They must always be working alongside a fulltime employee. Unless the Board of Directors says differently.

**Qualifications**:
A Casual Child Care Worker shall have:

- A record of good physical, mental and emotional health.
- Shall be a good moral character. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing any conviction for a criminal offense while in the employment of Families First Child Care Centre, may be considered grounds for dismissal.
- To work more than 65 hours/month, a casual employee needs to have either a level 1, 2 or 3 in Early Childhood Education.
- A genuine liking of and a desire to work with children.
- An ability to work well within a team context in a co-operative and professional spirit.
- An ability to communicate well with the Director and/or Assistant Director, and Fulltime Employees.
- A worker should be aware that they are models for the children in areas such as: manner of speech, manner of conduct and respect for and co-operation with others.
- Close supervision of the children is necessary at all times.
- Workers should be aware of the arrivals and departures of the children, and whether a child is being picked up by the proper person(s).
- Workers should be familiar with first-aid and emergency procedures, such as in the case of accident or fire: workers should know the location of the telephone numbers of the parents or for medical aid.
- The child care worker may be required to administer correct medication to a child at specified times, when a parent provides a signed medication form (most of the time, this will be done by a Fulltime employee)
- The Child Care Worker shall promote the acquisition of a positive self-image in every child by encouraging and facilitating that child’s individual social, emotional, and physical development.
- Possess and ability to use discipline in a manner that respects the child, and is in accordance with the behavior not the child.

**Duties concerning the operation of the center**:
The Casual Child Care Worker is responsible for:

- Minor housekeeping duties such as keeping shelves and equipment clean and tidy.
- Cleaning and sanitizing tables and setting the tables for meal time.
- Cleaning the tables, chairs and floors after meal time.
- Bathroom and diapering routine. (when in a room with a Fulltime Employee, most of the time when it is time it will be the Casual employee who will be responsible for changing diapers. This way, the Fulltime employee will be left with the majority of the children).
