We are seeking an experienced Manager to lead a dedicated, supportive, and hard-working team of staff and volunteers at **_the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society Thrift Store_**. Our store is a popular community hub that provides essential funding to the programs and supports offered by the Hospice Society. The store aims to provide an excellent experience for our customers and donors and plays an important role in raising the profile of the programs and supports available to those who are facing end of life, grief and loss in our community.
**Summary**
The Manger leads with integrity and compassion to implement the Store’s operations and procedures in a team environment. This position has overall responsibility for store operations including receiving, sorting, pricing and recycling of all donations, along with staff, volunteer and building management. The manager is responsible for control and oversight of opening and closing, managing Point of Sale, administration, risk management and health and safety.
**Staff Supervision**
- Provide positive communication of expectations and give feedback while listening to learn
- Manage and coach staff performance with objective of achieving positive outcomes
- Supervise store volunteers with support of Volunteer Coordinator.
- Manage staff scheduling by monitoring workflow, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained and work is allocated effectively.
**Store Operations**
- Follow all policies and procedures of the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society and the Thrift Store Operating Manual
- Represent the Society in a professional and courteous manner while providing quality service to customers, donors, and community partners
- Provide direction to staff and volunteers on donation intake, inventory control, sorting practices, pricing, stock rotation, and customer service
- Manage cash register float, along with the key-holder, and ensure end of day reconciliation are done daily advising office of any major discrepancy
- Manage petty cash flow and transaction tracking as well as weekly bank deposits
- With Executive Director, plans upcoming sales/promotions/store events
- Strive for optimum store sales and participate in the annual budget process and financial targets
- Maintain positive volunteer, staff, and customer relations by responding to problems or issues that have evolved and ensuring that they are handled appropriately
**Risk Management**
- Ensure workplace safety and adherence to WorkSafe BC and Provincial Health regulations
- Be the lead when managing and resolving loss prevention and theft, challenging customers, donors, and complaints.
- Lead contact with partners such as Transcontinental, recycling, building maintenance and community partners
- Address and resolve conflicts/errors in the workplace and advise the Executive Director for information or to seek advice or direction
- Meet regularly with Executive Director and provide written monthly board reports
**COVID and Communicable Disease _(will be revised according to current Provincial orders and guidelines_)**
- Ensure staff, volunteers and customers are following policy and procedures and fulfill all other duties as they evolve.
**Qualifications**
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of retail management experience or comparable experience
- Experience with thrift store/social enterprise operations an asset
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted
- Must be able to sustain a full day of standing, walking, bending and lifting
- Position requires full COVID-19 vaccination status as per Hospice Society policy
