**ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE**
Under the direction of the Vice-President, People, provides proactive services, problem-solving, advice and support to the Company’s property-level on human resource matters. The ultimate objective is to support and contribute to the attainment of the organization’s objective of being an exemplary employer and provider of unsurpassed quality of care and service, while achieving a reasonable return on investment for its shareholders, including supporting the culture of the company and ensuring that the values of the organization are communicated and understood at all levels.
**BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS**
- A related college or university degree.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a labour relations and human resources position in a mid
- to large-sized company is required, with a preference within the healthcare or hospitality section.
- A high level of spoken and written communication skills and demonstrated capacity to influence and earn the respect of others, is essential.
- A certified Human Resources Professional or equivalent designation would be of advantage.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Acts as the primary liaison when employee relations issues arise and guides managers through problem solving and to a satisfactory resolution of issues.
- Assist the general managers with filling vacancies, recruitment, job postings, job fairs, screening, etc., if required.
- Assist in the roll-out, implementation, adoption and training of electronic systems.
- Assists with employee communication and recognition programs, as directed by the VP People.
- Contributes to human resources and talent development initiatives for employees across the company's assigned properties and offices.
- Participates in promoting a positive work environment, wellness programs, and Verve culture.
- Advises on regulatory and related compliance as it relates to Human Resources and Labour Relations areas, in the provinces in which the Company operates.
- Participates in residence audits, providing reports and recommendations.
- Supports the VP People, National People Manager or designate, in the negotiation of collective agreements for designated residences, as requested.
- Recommends to general managers decisions based on collective agreements and policies, and provides interpretation/administration of the collective agreements.
- Handles final step grievances and provides representation and input to the interest arbitration process as requested by VP People, National People Manager or designate.
- Provides proactive services, problem solving, performance management advice and counsel to general managers and line managers in all human resources areas.
- Provides training and development in union/management relations to managers and supervisors.
- Provides advice and education on the disciplinary process, from coaching and counselling through to the termination of employment.
- Assists in the recruitment for salaried staff including interviews and the preparation of offer letters, contracts of employment, etc.
- Provides training and in-services that support the on-going development and education of employees.
- Analyzes information relevant to the retirement home sector, including wage trends and settlement patterns to support the company's competitive position.
- Participates in the development and implementation of orientation procedures and programs for new hires and assists with the training in all aspects of human resources.
- Assists with the orientation and training for managers in the people policies and procedures.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures and responds to inquiries from staff regarding these policies.
- Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) Program.
- Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required mandatory training/education.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WorkSafe BC, WCB, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System or related provincial legislation. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
