As part of a multi-disciplinary team receiving day to day direction from the Operations Leader, the Technical Assistant is responsible for contributing to patient care by providing support to patients and the Medical Imaging team.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assists technical, nursing and medical staff with pre and post procedural patient care
- Orders supplies electronically as necessary, consulting with medical and administrative staff
- Assists with setting up sterile trays
- Assists with transferring patient to and from stretcher to procedure tables, pre and post procedure
- Cleans/disinfecs soiled trays and removes and disposes of sharps
- Cleans/disinfects tables, carts and changes linens after each case
- Empties hampers, garbage bags, sharps and empty contrast and saline bottles
- Disposes of body fluid containers using Universal Blood Precautions (UBP) standards
- Assists with transport of patients as required
- Assists patients with meals as required
- Assists relatives of patients as required
- Greets and assists out-patients with their needs as required
- Delivers manual requisitions when required
- Transports drug trays to and from satellite pharmacy
- Delivers items to nursing units as required
- Acquires trays from CPD, sealing packages for sterilization
- Receives, unpacks and checks supplies delivered to Medical Imaging Inventory Management - stocks supplies as required, stock rotation, knowledge of vendors, type and quantity of product
- Stocks supplies as required and processes product returns
- Soaks, cleans, rinses, dries and packages items for sterilization
- Participates with team members in patient care planning process and in the development and implementation of quality based initiatives

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Graduate of medical technology course or an undergraduate course within health care
- OR experience would be an asset
- Recent experience in a Medical Imaging Angiography department preferred
- Knowledge of Vendor Administration processes would be an asset
- Experience with electronic ordering software preferred
- Paramedical/imaging related education preferred
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand basic medical terminology, concepts of anatomy and physiology
- Experience in asceptic technique
- Ability to understand and problem solve issues related to medical equipment and its safe use in a medical imaging environment
- Demonstrated excellent customer-focused approach to patients and staff
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member with registered nurses, registered technologists, physicians and peers
- Must be physically able to perform duties requiring heavy exertion (lifting, pushing, pulling)
- Knowledge of current infection control practices
- Strong communication skills
- Must have excellent attendance record
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of St. Michael's Hospital

**HOURS OF WORK**:
Must be able to work all shifts including days, evening, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.

This position will work predominately 23:00-7:00 Mon to Fri or shifts as per operational needs.
