Position Summary

Responsible for procurement of poles and providing fiber to manufacturing locations to meet production requirements. Under the guidance of the Director, the Forester works closely with the Woodlands Manager(s) staff to develop a sustained annual harvest of poles within the management plan and goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide a continuous supply of barkie poles to accomplish established annual production requirements.
- Cruise land to determine volume, size, and quality of timber stands.
- Assess timber sales from Ontario/Quebec sales and MNR rules.
- Oversee logging contractors on timber sales and purchased tracts.
- Inspect and evaluate potential timber sales and follow up with successful purchasers for possible pole production.
- Mark barkie poles in standing timber, and train contractors to mark standing timber.
- Purchase and balance raw materials inventory to meet required production levels.
- Monitor barkie yields to ensure cost efficiency is maintained and budget requirements are met.
- Maintain and develop new relationships with suppliers of barkies and fiber.
- May contact carriers to arrange transportation of purchases.
- Ensure proper quantity and quality of materials received at locations.
- Supervise manufacturing of barkie poles to ensure quality control and direct sizes toward company needs.
- Day-to day contact with and supervision of contractors and suppliers.
- Work closely with the Woodlands Manager(s) on managing woodlands goals, and planning all activities to meet legal and financial objectives.
- Visit all pole potential area on crown land & evaluate the pole potential, including pole volume estimation in standing timber.
- Follow and visit regularly all active pole harvesting sectors on crown land during operation time.
- Collaborate with coworkers, log buyers, accounting, contractors, consultants, and members of the public.
- Communicate regularly with other staff to ensure personnel, reporting, organizational, or system requirements or issues are raised and dealt with the goal of continuous improvement.
- Assist in preparation of fiber supply forecasts, including a monthly estimate of pole volume to be produced on each individual job.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, accruals, forecasts and manages spending to achieve goals.
- Review and signs off on supplier statements.
- Audit and inspect inventory quality and profile at white wood pole suppliers.
- Regularly update the Director on work status.
- Collaborate with EH&S (Environment, Health, and Safety) Coordinators to ensure compliance with and understanding of workplace regulations and policies.
- Identify new ESG opportunities, and report discovery to the Director for evaluation.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Travel Required: 80%

**Qualifications**:

- Forestry studies, College or University
- Registered Forestry Professional (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Forestry Field.
- Knowledgeable of forest practices, legislation and administration in North America
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be able to travel 80% of the time
