Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: In collaboration with the research scientist you will provide field, lab, analytical and project planning/implementation expertise to the wildlife research program. - help organize conduct and coordinate field and laboratory components - perform statistical analyses of research and monitoring data related to wildlife research and monitoring projects (large and small mammals, waterfowl, game birds, species at risk, and landscape ecology) - assist and sometimes lead delivery of individual research and monitoring projects. At times, you may be required to: - travel to remote field locations frequently and for multiple days - handle heavy equipment, operate off-road vehicles, and work under adverse weather conditions **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory**: - You have a willingness to be vaccinated against rabies. **Technical and field expertise**: - demonstrated ability to contribute to independent research or management programs and to see projects through to completion - demonstrated knowledge of wildlife research, monitoring & disease surveillance in order to contribute to study design and interpretation of results - demonstrated ability to plan, implement and report on wildlife related field research and monitoring programs, including providing leadership in field and laboratory research, such as animal capture and handling, radio telemetry, use of ATVs/UTVs/snowmobiles, wildlife population surveys and vegetation sampling - ability to read and interpret maps, use GPS/GIS to navigate in the field **Communication and interpersonal skills**: - demonstrated ability to prepare written technical reports to contribute to peer reviewed scientific publications and to communicate well orally to present complex biological results to other researchers, practitioners, and the public - proven interpersonal skills, tact and good judgment in order to collaborate effectively with researchers, partners and other resource managers - demonstrated ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project deadlines, including work planning and scheduling - demonstrated ability to both give and take direction as appropriate **Analytical expertise**: - demonstrated ability with radio telemetry and analysis of wildlife radio-tracking data, statistics and spatial analysis, telemetry techniques and the use of GPS equipment - demonstrated knowledge of statistical theory and software to analyze data, and provide input to peer reviewed publications and resource management decisions - demonstrated knowledge of spatial analysis and mapping, using software such as ESRI ArcGIS **Computer proficiency**: - experience in the use of computers and tools to collect, organize, manage and store data, use complex statistical and spatial analysis software (e.g., R, MS Access, ArcGIS, Survey 123), prepare written and visual results, communicate with colleagues and partners, and to organize work schedules, tasks and deadlines - demonstrated ability to design and maintain databases and file structures for data collection, analysis and file management **Additional Information**: **Address**: - 1 English Temporary - Seasonal, duration up to 42 weeks, 421 James St S, Thunder Bay, North Region **Compensation Group**: - Ontario Public Service Employees Union- Understanding the job ad - definitions - **Schedule**: - 3-A**Category**: - Fish and Wildlife**Posted on**: - Friday, October 11, 2024**Note**: -
