Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will: - provide technical, laboratory, and data management support - assist in the planning and implementation of field and laboratory studies - provide group leadership by training and supervising unclassified staff - oversee the year round operation, maintenance and repair of CNFER facilities and equipment Note: This position requires the physical ability to handle heavy equipment. **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory requirements**: - You have the ability to work long hours, in rough terrain, in inclement weather, in remote locations requiring extended periods away from home. **Technical knowledge and skills**: - You have theoretical and field-based knowledge of forest ecological principles and practices related to forest management and silviculture and research and monitoring activities to develop and prepare short and long term operational work plans. - You have knowledge of data management standards and operational practices associated with data collection techniques and standards, design methodologies, field and laboratory techniques and procedures. - You have knowledge of operation and maintenance of technical equipment in the field and lab to oversee maintenance, repair and operation of laboratories, research field stations, and maintain research equipment such as electronic data collection devices, pH meters, GPS units, hand and power tools, chain saws, ATV's and snowmobiles. - You have knowledge of GIS methods to assist in data capture, management, spatial analysis, interpretation, and science transfer. - You have knowledge of the employer's responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other safety policies and programs to provide a safe workplace and ensure workers follow procedures. **Planning and coordination skills**: - You have proven planning and coordination skills to prepare long and short-term operational plans, including expenditure projections, human and equipment needs. - You have project management skills to plan and implement a project through to completion and within budget. **Group leadership and communication skills**: - You have group leadership and interpersonal skills to direct staff, build effective working relationships, and liaise with a wide variety of clients, partners and the public. - You have sound oral communication skills to train staff, present program results, participate in field tours and represent CNFER at meetings and workshops, etc. - You have written communication skills to assist in the preparation of scientific reports, letters and memoranda. **Analytical and problem-solving skills**: - You have computational skills to summarize results of research projects using common statistical approaches. - You have problem-solving skills to maintain and repair field and laboratory equipment including ATV's, snowmobiles, GPS, hand and power tools and equipment. - You have sound judgment to resolve issues and overcome technical problems. **Computer software skills**: - You are proficient in computer software such as word processing, electronic mail, graphics, presentation, statistics, GIS, spreadsheet and data management to summarize data and prepare reports. **Additional Information**: **Address**: - 1 English Permanent, 421 James St S, Thunder Bay, North Region **Compensation Group**: - Ontario Public Service Employees Union- Understanding the j
