Education Transportation Driver and Coordinator

**The Position**:
Under the general supervision of the K-12 Education Manager, the Education Transportation Driver/Coordinator is a conscientious driver who can transport and supervise passengers safely and efficiently, maintaining the bus and associated records and coordinating service delivery with all approved families.
- Safely drive the bus.
- Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers according to safety protocols and passenger health needs as directed.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, staff and others; provide general information and respond to inquiries of all passengers and their families.
- Design and drive regular bus routes - communicating scheduling with families and service interruption and/or changes.
- Supervise children and youth as necessary and/or assist elders on some events/outings.
- Perform minor first aid and complete required forms as needed.
- Maintain a record of concerns/incidents regarding any problems encountered during the transportation of passengers and notify Supervisor immediately when safe to do so.
- Ensure all licenses are kept valid and current, including CPR/First Aid certificates.
- Report any anticipated late delivery or pickup of passengers to the Supervisor or designate as soon as possible, directly informing the passenger or parent of changes wherever possible.
- Ensure only passengers who have been approved are transported to and from their destinations.
- Observe all the road rules, including speed limits and safety regulations.
- Always conduct oneself courteously and professionally.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to ensure availability for occasional deliveries on behalf of departments and/or extra runs, and/or special activities (e.g., field trips/outings) outside normal working hours.
- Collaborate with the Supervisor to explore the additional transportation needs of families and how the Nation can respond to these needs.
- Support policy development and advocacy work of the department as appropriate.
- Perform daily pre
- and post-van and/or bus trip safety inspections and report any necessary repairs or concerns.
- Ensure Nation vehicles are fueled and ready for service.
- Ensure cleanliness of Nation vehicles: cleaning and sanitizing as needed after trips; ensuring an adequate supply of face masks and hand sanitizer is available as required.
- Ensure that all equipment regarding the vehicle is maintained according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and safety regulations. Plan and schedule vehicle maintenance and inspections.
- Coordinate the repairs of vehicles with Nation departments and external providers as required.
- Follow all COVID protocols and safety requirements as directed.
- Follow the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
- Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.
**Qualifications, Skills and Abilities**:
- Minimum Grade 10 education; High School Diploma or equivalent desirable.
- Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.
- Knowledge of the community and city is required.
- Respect for, sensitivity towards, knowledge, and understanding of shíshálh culture and traditions.
- Be able to lift 40 lbs. when necessary.
- Minimum Class 5 license with a clear driver's abstract throughout employment.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- CPR and First Aid Certificate.
- Pre-employment physical completed by a family physician or Nurse Practitioner.
- Must be able to adhere to the Medical Transportation Policy.
