Environmental Field Technician

**WSP **is currently seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join our Earth & Environment team. Reporting to the Team Lead, this position will be responsible for completing field and technical work primarily in the London/St. Thomas area, primarily related to landfill cell construction inspection and QA/QC and landfill monitoring, with the possibility of some environmental site assessments and remediation programs.

**Responsibilities**
**What you'll do in a day**:
- Conduct technical work related to Environmental Engineering/Geosciences on projects undertaken by WSP. Projects will mainly relate to landfill cell construction inspection and QA/QC, but may also include landfill monitoring, Phase I and II environmental Site assessments, hydrogeologic studies, geotechnical investigations or others;
- Conduct landfill construction inspection and monitoring, which may include:
- Landfill cell construction inspection and quality assurance/control (QA/QC), including documentation, compilation of analytical results, geotechnical testing and reporting;
- Landfill infrastructure inspection and QA/QC, including documentation, testing and reporting for landfill gas collection, leachate collection, roadway and other landfill infrastructure installation;
- Daily construction inspection reports;
- Assisting with landfill cell construction contract administration;
- Attending weekly meetings with the client and operator as needed, assisting with minutes preparation;
- Monthly landfill site inspections (assisting with reporting); and
- Landfill gas extraction well monitoring.
- Conduct soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment monitoring activities which may include:
- Collecting samples through drilling and monitoring well installation supervision, test pitting supervision or hand auguring equipment, including detailed soil descriptions, detailed drilling records and sample submission to analytical laboratories; and
- Conducting groundwater, surface water and leachate monitoring activities, including detailed documentation and sample submission to analytical laboratories.
- Work closely with senior staff members to develop technical skills;
- Responsible for: adhering to health and safety requirements; environmental data procurement, collation, and management; technical accuracy of projects; and timely completion of projects within the budgetary requirements;
- Planning and coordination of field work and conducting soil and water monitoring programs using a variety of techniques;
- Coordination for the completion of project maps, borehole/well logs and summary analytical tables;
- Work may include working on sites outside of the area; andOther duties, as assigned.
- **Qualifications**
**What you'll bring to WSP**:
- Environmental Technician/Technology diploma or equivalent, or a related discipline or similar program;
- 0 to 2 years of environmental consulting experience;
- Landfill construction experience and/or groundwater and soil sampling experience, including drilling and well installation oversight would be an asset;
- Data management and analytical and statistical analyses experience using MS Excel and database queries;
- A keen attention to detail;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to schedule multiple tasks within set deadlines;
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment;
- A strong foundation of Health & Safety practices;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with specific competencies in Excel and Word;
