**Job Description**:
**Summary**
The Operations Team Lead is responsible for motivating and engaging their team to carry out the directives of management and advance the goals of the company while giving utmost attention to the health and safety of all employees, the protection of the environment and the integrity of company assets. The Team Lead will take responsibility for driving the Operations activities for the shift and provide frequent feedback to management especially when an activity does not proceed as planned or a timeline is slipping. The Team Lead must be a proponent of management decisions and directives and demonstrate a positive attitude while relaying these to the team. Risk identification and management are critical skills required of the Team Lead along with the ability to effectively lead a crew of Operators.
**Responsibilities**
The duties of the Team Lead include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the safe conduct of themselves and their crew
- Demonstrate consistent procedural adherence and expect the same from their crew
- Become an expert in the process and equipment and help others to achieve the same.
- Supervise, manage and motivate team members.
- Foster a positive atmosphere of safety, respect, hard work, and effective communication.
- Organize the team and the work for the day based on the goals and priorities of Management. Follow up on activities and the performance of team members. Understand the priorities of tasks and seek clarification when needed.
- Help manage inventories of PPE and consumables.
- Ensure team members adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Coach and mentor Team members to improve their capabilities. Identify individuals’ areas for improvement and help them to improve.
- Set a good example for safe behavior, punctuality, attendance, accountability, productivity and positive attitude. Expect the same from the team members.
- Address minor performance issues with team members and bring forward to Management any major or recurring performance issues.
- Be a stakeholder in ensuring the manpower needs of the plant are sufficient. Help to fill required overtime by ensuring your Team contributes adequately to the operating and training needs of the plant.
- Promote the corporate values of creativity, discipline, sense of urgency, collaboration and self-awareness.
- First hour of day compliance.
- Ensure proper shift handovers are completed.
- Provide guidance during shift kickoff meeting.
- Ensure daily operating plan are carried out by the operations staff.
- Inform Supervisor when changes to the directive are required due to operational condition changes.
- Advise Supervisor whenever KPIs are not being maintained.
- Ensure equipment is prepared as directed for maintenance activities.
- Inform the Maintenance coordinator when there are issues that affect the ability to prepare the equipment on time.
- Work place observations and permit assessments to assist in auditing the effectiveness of our safety programs.
- Lead the monthly safety meeting with the crew.
- Test emergency preparedness through emergency drills on at least a quarterly basis. Act as Incident Commander during Emergency Response
- Initial review of isovisions to ensure immediate actions are taken to minimize risks and confirm the risk ranking is correct.
- To be completed and submitted complete with all statements from individuals involved prior to the crew leaving the plant.
- Manage work schedules to ensure competent operators are in each unit as required.
- Manage operator vacation and OT within guidelines.
- Manage all operators core safety and unit training to meet 100% compliance at all times.
