Since its founding in 2009, Otter Energy has grown into a full-service solar provider and has expanded its services to include Project Development, Operation, Maintenance, and Financing.
**JOB SUMMARY**:
In this role, the General Manager will work closely with the Sales and Operations teams to support all technical aspects of project delivery from conception and proposal through to the final completion and follow-up of a project. You will play an essential role in supporting all levels of the organization with the proposals, construction, and commissioning of residential solar systems.
**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Assist in the initial design and system sizing for project feasibility analysis
- Assist with equipment procurement and the tracking of equipment orders
- Coordinate with engineers for the preparation and delivery of project design documents, such as site plans, system layouts, electrical diagrams, and structural drawings
- Coordinate with Business Development for accurate and efficient proposal delivery and managing client expectations, including accurate designs, costs, and pricing
- Assist with project feasibility analysis and in the preparation of client proposals
- Provide leadership in all aspects of operations and maintenance
- Ensure compliance with all regulations and policies
- Oversee personnel development and succession planning by teaching, mentoring, and growing the team
- Drive continuous improvement of site performance
- Oversee all client relations can concerns
- Liaise with community leaders, regulatory agencies, equipment manufacturers, and local Government and community representatives
- Scheduling and communicating with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Coordination and management of suppliers and subcontractors in all capacities
- Participate in regular site visits
- Forecast and tracks change orders and scope changes
- Maintaining project schedules and budgets
- Participate in site visits for project kickoffs, site meetings with hydro company representatives, for project closeouts, or as additionally required
- Create a culture of success contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Provide regular updates on project status and milestones
- Administration duties/tasks required and all other duties as assigned
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Solid understanding of the requirements of solar system design, installation, and utility interconnections
- Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Strong proficiency in Excel, and Word
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and ability to work independently, make decisions, and take responsibility on technical matters
- Have excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
- Self-motivated and driven to succeed
- Proven attention to detail
- Knowledge of the solar industry and/or solar design software is considered an asset
- Excellent analytical skills with an understanding of financial and operational concepts
- Sound judgmental powers; ability to respond promptly to the needs of the clients and internal collaborators
- Self-motivated with an interest in marketing and the renewable energy/solar industry with a commitment to continuously learning new skills including solar system design and site analysis
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:
- Education preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Renewable Energy, Business or an Electrical background
- 8+ Years’ experience in construction, operations, or renewable energy
- Previous experience mentoring and growing an internal team
- Valid Ontario driver’s license
- Valid Working at Heights Certification
- Be knowledgeable about the provincial building codes, electrical codes, ESA, CSA, and UL standards
- Able to travel from Monday to Friday on a weekly basis as required
- Flexibility to work remotely and in the Picton, ON office
