As a Banquet Server/Bartender, your primary responsibility is to support the Sales & Conference Manager in providing exemplary customer service to each and every guest; specifically those utilizing the Conference Centre. As a part of our award-winning team at the Best Western Plus in Walkerton, your responsibility will be to:
- Assist with nurturing and maintaining an attention-to-detail oriented serving experience for banquet and meeting functions.
- Assist with the setup, finalization, tear down and clean-up of event function spaces.
- Act as a liaison with conveners and guests; fulfilling any requests and acting efficiently at problem resolution, when able to do so. Otherwise, finding your supervisor/manager to deal with the issue.
- Set up for events with duties that include but are not limited to; polish silverware and dishes; arrange table settings; put up buffet and decorations etc.
- Serve food and beverage items to banquet guests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner; sometimes provide wine service with meals.
- Ensure that every guest feels cared for, valued and respected in the hotel’s continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service.
- Clear tables at the appropriate time, take tablecloths and linens to laundry, break down & put away table set up.
- Help ensure all work areas and storage rooms are neat and organized.
- Learn about the hotel’s events, services and facilities.
- Maintain an orderly working environment, informing your manager of any deficiencies.
- Carry out tasks as assigned by your manager or supervisor that pertain to the overall operation of the banquet department.
- Complete all miscellaneous duties as directed by your supervisor or manager that pertain to the operation of the Conference Centre.
- Understand and carry out duties according to all banquet event orders and instructions for each event.
- Willing to work weekends, holidays and shift work as scheduled. Holiday pay is applicable.
- Work directly with customers by mixing and serving drink orders.
- Bartending shifts and serving shift sometimes require late nights and long shifts (8-13 hours per shift).
- Provide a pleasant drinking experience to customers.
- Serve drinks while maintaining a clean and sanitary bar area.
- Attend to the detail and presentation of each order.
- Prepare and maintains ingredients by following recipes, when required.
- Adhere to proper alcohol handling, sanitation, and safety procedures.
- Maintain appropriate dating, labeling, and rotation of all beverage items.
- Coordinate alcohol inventory for bar and submit orders to supervisor.
- Contribute to holiday & themed drink menus in collaboration with supervisor.
- Ensure smooth operation of bar services during absence of supervisor.
Some skills that will be key to being successful in this role are:
- HIGH LEVEL ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS A REQUIREMENT.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) is a requirement.
- Smart Serve Certificate is a requirement.
- Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm, respectful and courteous at all times.
- Teamwork approach to all duties and helpful attitude with co-workers.
- Efficient and effective approach to completing all tasks.
- Previous experience in banquets/bartending at a hotel is preferred.
- Must be able to follow instructions and also use own judgment on decisions when required.
- Must provide a positive and professional demeanor.
