Faculty Relations Manager

Overview:
The Faculty Relations Manager provides a senior-level single point of contact with the faculty to create greater opportunity for strategic and value-added collaboration and partnering and facilitates Co-operative and Experiential Education’s vision and mission. The Faculty Relations Manager is a primary liaison with the faculty on two fronts: a) to ensure Co-op contributes to the academic mission of the faculty; and b) to provide account-like oversight to the faculty as a uWaterloo co-op employer.
This role will have specific responsibilities for the Faculty of Engineering.
**Responsibilities**:
Serve as the primary ‘face’ and liaison to the Faculty as a conduit for co-op requirements, process and program, and development of strategies in support of academic integration of work integrated learning
- Develop, maintain, and foster an open and transparent dialog relationship with the Faculty and the Associate Dean with responsibility for co-op/WIL, ensuring the success of the co-op program
- Develop strategic approaches to strengthen integration of work integrated learning academic programs through the co-op program
- Collaborate with CEE colleagues and leverage Faculty relationships to develop new employers outside UW as well as strengthen connections to industry
- Ensure the faculty and program have access to clear and accurate information on co-op programs through reports, summaries, and analysis of data
- Engage with the Faculty to ensure contributions as appropriate to the development of new, or amendment of existing policies, strategies, programs, and operational discussions/decisions
- Own the experience of all faculty-based employers (academic, staff, and administrative) by ensuring appropriate support for co-op student employment
- Optimize Faculty strategies to effectively manage co-op work terms
Consultation and Support for Initiatives
- Ensure consultation and support for initiatives (Faculty or Co-op) for student engagement and success, co-op process, co-op degree requirements, job development, and other initiatives that support co-op program development and growth (e.g., program
- and faculty-level communications, access, criteria for jobs, etc.)
- Identify opportunities and participate in the development and implementation of CEE programs and processes that enhance and support access, wellness, and inclusion
- Utilize co-op expertise and knowledge of quality WIL to inform work with programs and faculties related to recruitment, admissions, student communications, WIL preparatory activities, etc
- Lead Co-op engagement with faculty on program reviews and the development of new WIL programs through feasibility analyses, and new program plans, and program growth and development
Lead development and enhancement of Co-op and WIL programs in academic programs
- In collaboration with CEE colleagues, contribute to strategies that support changes in program curriculum and/or enrolment that effectively inform job development
- Leverage expertise and knowledge of the faculty and WIL pedagogy for new co-op program development, ensuring a robust connection between industry/employers and the faculty/program
- Monitor employment metrics of new and existing co-op plans and as necessary explores opportunities for targeted job development, with CEE staff and the Faculty
Provide overall leadership to the organization
- Personally champion CEE mission, vision and guiding principles and play a leadership role in bringing them to life
- Provide leadership, direction, and strategic planning for Co-op
- Monitor business practices to ensure that Co-op has the appropriate practices and processes to work effectively internally and represent UW externally
- Lead the development of new capabilities required by the introduction of new systems, tools, processes, and sharing of data and other reports
- Develop productive, collaborative working relationships across CEE, external partners, and uWaterloo
- Lead the identification, development, and implementation of projects to improve access to co-op, service quality, relationships, stakeholder satisfaction, timeliness, staff capability and performance
- Develop internal/external customer service standards, monitor satisfaction with service delivered and take action to restore and enhance service quality
Qualifications:
- University Degree
- 7 years of related experience, including experience in front-line or account management, and experience in academic settings, preferably working with faculty-level administration and/or Work-Integrated Learning.
- Strengths in relationship building, interpretation of data, process analysis, communication, presentations, collaborative teamwork, and knowledge of academic programming will all be required for this role
- Program/project management experience is an asset
- Familiarity with academic programs and pedagogy as it relates to Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning
