**EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY**:
**PARKS & RECREATION RELIEF OPERATOR (UNION) CUPE 1701**

Reporting to the Superintendent of Parks & Facilities this position is to provide back up and relief support services for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Lou Jeffries arena and the Gord Brown Memorial outdoor rink. Main duties of this position include but are not limited to: ice maintenance, general building custodial and maintenance duties, monitor building, refrigeration and environmental systems. The Relief Operator will also address and respond to inquiries from the public and facility users, and will ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of the work.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES**:

- Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma.
- Possession of a valid Class “G” driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Acceptable Police Criminal Records Check including vulnerable sector check.
- Working knowledge of facility maintenance practices and procedures.
- At least two (2) years of relevant experience (A Certified Ice Technician designation or equivalent will be considered an asset).
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration equipment and procedures including the ability to perform duties necessary in the making and maintaining the ice surface (considered an asset).
- Operate, maintain and complete minor repairs to facilities and general equipment including, but not limited to: ice machines, snow blowers, power tools, sound system, etc.
- Competence in oral and written communication and tact in meeting with the public.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. independently
- Possession of, or agreement to obtain, a First Aid Certificate and a thorough knowledge of the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**:

- Work will be on an On-Call, as required basis, on short notice between the hours of 5:30AM and 12:30AM, 7 days a week
- Work is completed inside and outside in all weather conditions.
- This position requires a person who can work independently, multi-task and work in a busy, sometimes disruptive environment.
- Must provide customer service to the public in a friendly, respectful and helpful manner on a regular basis while carrying out related tasks.

The 2025 wage rate for this position is **$33.33** per hour.
