**Purpose**
The Manager of Active Living and Culture manages, supervises, and coordinates various recreation programs, facility bookings and special events throughout the municipality. The Manager also oversees the maintenance of all municipal parks, trails, sports fields, greenspaces, and the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.

**General Duties**
- Assist in the supervision and scheduling of all departmental unionized staff.
- Manage all municipal recreational programs, events, and activities.
- Manage and maintain all municipal parks, trails, sports fields, green spaces, and the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.
- Oversee facility booking and rental processes.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of Department methods, procedures and programs.
- Coordinate municipal responsibilities related to community organized events.
- Respond to and resolve sensitive and difficult public inquiries and complaints.
- Participate in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
- Maintain close contact with school officials and community groups regarding program offerings and coordination of services.
- Prepare and maintain records and evaluation reports on new and on-going program offerings.
- Participate in revisions or implementation of current and/or new policies that pertain to parks, programs and events.
- Ensure all departmental staff are following health and safety procedures.
- Brief contractors/service providers on Health and Safety procedures.
- Ensure various inspection reports and insurance documents are being completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Keep accurate and easily accessible records of all work to ensure organizational continuity.
- Provide input and participate in operating and capital budgeting processes.
- Collaborate with other municipal departments in relation to green space maintenance and upgrades, events or other similar activities.
- Prepares and presents reports to Council and attend Committee of the Whole and Regular Council meetings when appropriate.
- Assess and monitor community needs; identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures for development and implementation of new program areas.
- Participate in long-range and strategic planning.
- Assist in the unionized employee selection and training process, as well as orientation and supervision, including students.
- Active participant in various municipal committees and the municipal Emergency Measures Operations.
- Provide support to the two Public Library’s operations within Tantramar boundaries as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

**Education and Experience**
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, public administration, physical education, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- WHMIS, First Aid and CPR are considered an asset.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 New Brunswick Driver’s license, or equivalent.
- Modern principles of park planning and design.
- Modern principles and methods for developing and implementing a wide variety of recreation, social, and leisure activities for children and adults.
- Principles of human resource management, supervision, and training.

**Knowledge and Skills**
- A strong understanding of parks management, maintenance and practices.
- An understanding of arena management and maintenance is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, coordination, organizational, communication (written and verbal) and planning skills.
- Basic understanding of accounting and finance principles.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Office 365 suite of programs.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Perform responsible and difficult work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, Municipal Council, community organizations, individual citizens, governmental agencies, contractors, and vendors.
- Work effectively under pressure and deadlines with consistent interruptions.

**Additional Information**
- Office will be located at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre
- Must be able to travel to various locations throughout Tantramar.
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions when required.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends when required, the regular working day predominantly being Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Must be able to work with mínimal supervision.
- Must be able to work with confidential information.

Pay: $65,510.00-$87,347.00 per year
