Department Description

The Control & Settlement team forms part of the wider Banking Reconciliation & Control group. The department performs a wide variety of functions and is responsible for; cancel and reissue of cheques, processing of manual payments, bounced cheques, debit card exception resolution and reconciliation, IP Brokerage asset reconciliations and existing IT/ETF cash reconciliations against CREST.

As with all teams within BRC there is a heavy focus on all our processes to ensure that Client Money is always considered and any FCA CASS regulations are not breached, to aid us in this we use our Client Money record keeping system, AutoRek, as part of many of our processes. C&S works closely with other teams within BRC both in the UK and ISC.

Purpose of your role

The role of a Control & Settlement Associate is to ensure the below key responsibilities are carried out where required. Due to the variety of tasks undertaken in the team, flexibility is essential so that when required staff can be shifted to cover as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Control & Settlement team members work on a rota basis to ensure there is a good knowledge of all processes and that there is scope to react and be able to adjust to any scenarios that arise meaning the below responsibilities are expected of all the team on any given day.
- Monitor group mailboxes, XTRAC queues and incoming post, resolving requests and dealing with queries as required
- Processing cancelled/stopped cheques, liaising with Barclays where applicable
- Raising of manual payments relating to range of scenarios
- Investigate and action all bounced cheques working through to resolution with CR/Deal Corrections
- Resolve debit card exceptions within a timely manner and perform the relevant reconciliations on incoming money and against underlying client deals
- Understanding of the CREST Settlement process for our Investment Trust and Exchange Traded Funds dealing
- Re-reg process on CREST for IT/ETF’s
- CREST matching, trade amendments and problem solving
- Daily asset reconciliation for Brokerage assets on the Investment Platform
- Monitoring, labelling and resolution of outstanding entries within our client money record keeping system, AutoRek
- Ownership of any issues identified and taking initiative to resolve in a timely manner with no or mínimal impact to client
- Ensure that Client Money rules are understood & applied to all applicable aspects of the role
- Where issues arise relating to Client Money, prompt escalation to CASS team, senior management, compliance and potentially risk
- Input all JD Edwards keying received from areas within the department onto the One World System daily.

Experience and Qualifications Required
- Effective problem solver and solution orientated
- Proficient in representing team in projects and influence change
- IOC qualification attained or working towards
- Handle escalated issues and briefing senior management if necessary
- Excellent PC skills notably Microsoft Office e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Good numerical skills
- Efficient in processing with accuracy and attention to detail
- Team player with a flexible approach
- Strong willingness to learn
- Challenge established processes and seek improvements
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and with confidence at all levels and formats

Additional Skills Beneficial:
The following skills would be an advantage but not essential with training provided as required:
- Reconciliation / accounting background
- An existing understanding of Client Money rules
- Knowledge of AutoRek, GFAS, Xtrac, CREST GUI, Settler
- Excellent PC skills notably Microsoft Office e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Good numerical skills
- Efficient in processing with accuracy and attention to detail
- Team player with a flexible approach
