Health and Safety Officer

**Duties**:
Business
- In collaboration with the leadership team, develop robust safety/environment plans to ensure conformance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Develop safety goals, monitor employee performance, and report on employee progress.
- Assist in budgeting and controlling annual safety expenses.
- Create, evaluate, and implement health and safety programs and strategies.
- Source and stock all safety tools and equipment required.
Technical
- Conduct safety and environmental inspections and audits.
- Inspect and examine all health and safety-related complaints, workplace accidents, outbreaks of diseases, and hazardous spills.
- Implement a hazard assessment program and assist with the control of various hazards (e.g., Chemical, Biological, Physical, etc.).
- Investigate the construction site to ascertain equipment, production, and material processes do not pose a safety or health hazard to employees, work guests, and the public.
- Complete regular safety and health reports or injury log and ensure they are completed and submitted to relevant government agencies.
- Train and advise employers and all relevant stakeholders on issues of workplace safety and environmental protection.
- Manage the Workplace Health & Safety Committee and all related activities and outcomes.
- Create different frameworks that will reduce accidents and improve workplace safety.
- Verify the adequacy and safety of all work proposed tools and equipment (ie. Vehicle fleet maintenance and repairs).
- Review and approve all subcontractors’ safety plans.
- Train and run drills and exercises with workers on how to manage emergency situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Culture Management
- Work closely with the Occupational Health & Safety regulations, industry, and corporate objectives.
- Coach different levels of the organization on the needs of the safety/environmental program elements.
- Act as an effective change agent and look to promote excellence in the workplace.
**Requirements**:
- A diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety is strongly recommended, NCSO/NCSA designation is required
- 1-3 years experience in an occupational, environmental, health, or safety discipline, preferably construction
- Strong working knowledge of applicable workplace, health and safety regulations with the ability to review and interpret legislation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good organizational and record-keeping abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Profound knowledge of company project work. This will assist the Construction Safety Officer to design and implement effective safety solutions
**Salary**: $57,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
