At UBC, we believe that attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce is key to the successful pursuit of excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.

The Faculty provides several pathways to earning a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), including an 11-month Teacher Education Program on the Vancouver campus, an 11-month West Kootenay Teacher Education Program (WKTEP) on the Nelson campus, a two-year Remote and Rural Education (RRED) program across BC, and a four-year concurrent Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP). These programs alternate between coursework, practicum placements, and community field experiences. In addition to the B.Ed. program, the Faculty offers minors, extensive certificate and diploma programs, graduate programs, and numerous professional development opportunities for a diverse student body at local, provincial, national, and international levels.

The B.Ed. program at UBC serves as a credentialing and certification pathway in collaboration with the Ministry of Education's Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) and BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC). Therefore, it is critical that students receive accurate and informed guidance to ensure that their program completion leads to successful certification as teachers in BC.

Job Summary

The Program Manager, Student Services (Elementary and Middle Years) is responsible for several key areas, including advising prospective B.Ed. students on teacher education programs and supporting current B.Ed. students with coursework, practicums, and community field experiences. This role covers various programs, including the 4-year concurrent NITEP program, the 2-year Rural and Remote Education (RRED) program, and the 11-month programs in both Vancouver and the West Kootenays. Additionally, the Program Manager manages the student experience for post-baccalaureate Diploma and Certificate programs, primarily for practicing educators, across multiple campuses.

The position requires strong communication, advising, teaching, and research skills, as well as experience in planning recruitment programs. The Program Manager provides student and career advising, resolves complex work-life challenges, and negotiates with educational partners, including regulatory bodies. Liaising with staff, faculty, and departments across the Faculty of Education and UBC is essential to ensure accurate information is provided to students from diverse backgrounds. The role also involves collaborating with public and independent schools, government agencies, regulatory bodies, and community organizations.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Program Manager oversees protocols related to appeals, academic and non-academic misconduct, and student complaints within Teacher Education Programs across multiple campuses. The role involves working with the UBC Ombudsperson, Early Alert, Enrolment Services, and the UBC Centre for Accessibility. The Program Manager develops and implements strategies for program orientations and enhances student services by creating effective processes and systems, working closely with colleagues in the Teacher Education Office and other units.

Organizational Status
The Teacher Education Office (TEO) is the central unit responsible for overseeing Bachelor of Education enrollment across all programs and campuses within the Faculty of Education. The TEO consists of five Program Managers: two who manage practicum placements, one who oversees the Community Field Experience (Local, Rural, and International), and two who manage student services.
