**TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for a Train Crew Supervisor to join their team of rail professionals. Reporting to the Deputy Operations Manager the Train Crew Supervisor **is the first line supervisor and is accountable directly to the Duty Manager. The Train Crew Supervisor ensures that train movements are operated on time, safely, efficiently and economically over the entire Transit system consistent with our customer and TransEd’s mission of providing excellent Customer Service.**
**This position will interact closely with the other Managers and supervisors in operations as well as maintenance. It is imperative that each manager/supervisor fully understand the business of the other team members in order to have harmony.**
**Who we are**
TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton. Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the valley line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to anywhere the LRT stops.
**A typical day for the Train Crew Supervisor**
- Ensures that all transportation and Customer Service activities are performed safely, promptly while providing a courteous service to clients in accordance with corporate policies, practices, corporate Policies, practices and TransEd operating Rules and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitors and undertakes action to ensure performance of train operators on board trains, this includes the proper positioning of staff, good clear announcements, proper door handling and excellent and prompt customer relations. Train handling, adherence to schedules, operating rules, speed restrictions and regulatory requirements, initiating remedial action to eliminate undesirable operation practices
- Ensures that appropriate levels of employees are maintained to operate trains in a cost-effective manner, monitoring and assists in controlling operating crew availability
- Assess train reports for on-time performance and interface regularly with the operations control center to ensure coordination and daily performance of train operations and to immediately respond and correct deviations to the operating plan
- Provide on the job training and coaching for train operators and assists the Training Coordinator in the development of follow up training as required
- Investigates customer complaints, accidents, injuries, rule violations and other staff failures recommending corrective action to prevent a reoccurrence with a full report to the Operations Manager
- Must respond to all accidents, derailments, or disruptions assuming the senior role coordinating all TransEd transportation and equipment maintenance activities to minimize adverse affects to passengers while ensuring an expeditious return to normal operations
- Leads Investigations of TransEd employees and arranges for TransEd employees to be present and assists in determining the cause recommending and delivering the discipline
- Ensures that train operators are fully knowledgeable with the equipment in order to affect repairs online to minimize delays to train and their passengers in keeping with excellent Customer Services
- Provide input in the development of a Safety Management System dealing with the regulatory regime
**How Safety will play into your day to day**
- You will bring** **a good understanding, maintaining awareness and following relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, TransEd Operation rule book, standard operation procedures, health, safety and environmental requirements and instructions within own role and organization
- Continuously monitor area of responsibility to ensure compliance with legislation and TransEd safety procedures. Overall responsibility of passengers, staff and goods to enable compliance with regulations through safe and effective rail operation.
- Maintaining an awareness and following TransEd emergency, accident/incident plan, policy and procedures.
- Constructively challenge unsafe practice at all levels and report through the necessary channels.
- Inform/alert the control centre to any hazards which have been spotted along the route.
- Understand the risk of ill health and the impact of wellbeing on the safety of an individual, others at work and the public. Understand strategies for fatigue management e.g., sleep quality, and stress management.
- Manage own fitness to enable work to be carried out competently in order to reduce the risk to health and safety to self and all stakeholders.
- Requirements and process for ensuring rail safety and security on the line, at stations and depots.
- Constantly maintain a secure environment and respond to security issues and take appropriate action in the event of a breach of a security as accordance with company safe operation procedures, policies and safe systems of work.
**What you will bring to the team**
- High school or equivalent
- 3-5 years of rail experience
- Previous LRT experience considered an asset
- Locomotive Engineer qualification considered
