**MetroWorks's Employment Program for Racialized Newcomer Women**
Under the direction of MetroWorks management, the Employment Support Specialist will be a leader in providing employment support to Newcomer women as they develop their employability skills through participation in MetroWorks on-site social enterprises and community based employers. The Employment Support Specialist will engage participants and make them feel respected, supported, and optimistic about their future. The Employment Support Specialist will also be the main contact point between project participants and the labour market. The ability to meet with employers to facilitate employment opportunities will be a key component to this position.
**Qualifications**
University degree along with related work experience required.
Demonstrate a strong commitment for working with Newcomer women.
A valid drivers license, and access to a reliable vehicle required.
**Key attributes**
- Good knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies, especially those who work directly with newcomer women
- Ability to match job seekers to employers using a strengths-based approach to job matching
- Good understanding of employment maintenance issues impacting a clients’ ability to sustain employment including workplace culture and employer expectations
- Working knowledge of the full spectrum of pre and post-employment supports
- Good understanding of the unique differences of diverse job seekers, ability to assess job readiness and be familiar with newcomer women and the challenges they face on a daily basis in terms of employment
- Able to utilize various strategies and incentives to develop and maintain employer relationships
- Adherence to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making, and respect for diversity
- Commitment to professional development and career self-management
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques
- Understanding of DCS (ESIA) policies and supports
**Direct service provisions**
- Responsible for facilitating placements within existing MetroWorks social enterprises.
- Provide job coaching and job mentoring both internally and externally to support participants to ensure they are able to meet expected employment outcomes
- In conjunction with the Program Navigators, meet with participants to discuss employment goals and identify potential employers in the community.
- Meet with community based employers to facilitate employment placements.
- Ensure employers have all the information they need regarding incentive programs and expectations.
- Attend job fairs, career expos and other events that engage potential employers
- Meet with participants and employers to assist with the development of natural supports in the workplace
- Research and identify companies, industries, and growth sectors that are hiring to access job postings and uncover hidden job market opportunities.
**Administrative Duties**
- Keep accurate records and have these records available for review as required
- Assist project staff with maintaining up-to-date information in the designated reporting system, including creating and closing interventions and participant management
- Meet with MetroWorks management and project stakeholders as required
**Salary**: $46,000.00-$48,750.00 per year
