**Position Title**
- Continuing Studies - Photography Instructor**Job Summary**
- The Continuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking a Photography Instructor with a breadth of knowledge in skills such as:

- Mastery of camera settings, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO
- Expertise in composition techniques such as rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing
- Proficiency in lighting techniques, both natural and artificial
- Ability to teach post-processing tools like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
- Knowledge of different photography genres, such as portrait, landscape, and macro
- Understanding of color theory and its impact in photography
- Skill in guiding students through storytelling and conceptual photography projects
- Experience with different equipment, including lenses, tripods, and accessories
- Familiarity with industry standards, trends, and professional practices
- Encouraging creativity and experimentation in capturing unique perspectives
- Applicants should anticipate a range of students from various disciplines and backgrounds looking for technical skills, professional guidance and strategies to continue their creative growth.
- Successful applicants will be added to our pool of Continuing Studies educators who are contracted on a course-by-course basis.
- ECU Continuing studies adult individual courses are scheduled per term, once per week on weekday evenings and/or weekends, and may be offered in person or online. Continuing Studies instructors are contracted to teach at an hourly rate of $77.52.
- Instructional contracts involve:

- Preparing course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments and activities suitable for online and/or on-campus learning
- Preparing, populating and updating course content and resources in Moodle, Emily Carr’s Learning Management System (LMS).
- Supporting diverse student learning experiences, providing proactive feedback and guidance, completing assessments, and inputting grades
- Regularly communicating and collaborating with CS Administration and CS Technicians

**Required Qualifications**
- Applicants with a degree or practice in a relevant field, such as Photography, Visual Arts, Media Arts, Photojournalism, or Digital Media, and/or a combination of comparable professional experience, is required. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a creative industry.
- Expertise in a wide range of photography techniques and styles (fashion, commercial, product, architectural, experimental, etc..).
- An in-depth understanding of photography basics, technical camera operations and digital post-processing techniques.
- Experience working with clients and models, and professional conduct.
- Talent for inspiring confidence and creativity in students.
- Ability to address artistic challenges and clearly explain concepts and techniques and provide individualized constructive feedback.
- Experience in the creative community and understanding of trends, exhibitions, and professional practices.
- Experience with film photography and darkroom processes would be an asset.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- Experience teaching learners from diverse creative, cultural, and educational backgrounds would be an asset
- Experience developing lesson plans and preparing content for online and/or on-campus would be an asset

**Preferred Qualifications**
- At least 3 years of teaching or mentorship experience, preferably in fine arts, education or a related field
- Experience using adaptive and inclusive student engagement methods
- Experience with online education (including Moodle and Zoom) an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is an asset
