Community Support Worker

**Overview**
Community Support Workers at NPDWC are the first point of contact between community members and the organization. They work in our daytime drop-in space providing support with meeting basic needs, resources and referrals, and any other needs that may arise. They also connect community members to more in-depth supports within the organization, including Outreach and Community Navigators. In addition, they perform reception/administrative duties, cleaning and sanitization, and other projects as assigned.
**Responsibilities**
- Follow NPDWC policies, procedures, and respect guidelines.
- Attend all team meetings, learning gatherings, training, and other events as needed.
- Engage in clear and effective communication.
- Welcome visitors to the Centre and continuously promote a community understanding of the Centre’s vision, mission, objectives, policies, programs, and services.
- Build relationships with drop-in participants and where appropriate help them navigate to other programs and services at NPDWC and or to other partnering agencies.
- Data entry related to program requirements.
- Maintain the cleanliness and sanitization of the common spaces, inside and outside the centre while adhering to protocols for infection control.
- To act as the front-line liaison between and participants and all programs.
- Provide consistent, high-quality, low-barrier access to services such as meeting basic needs, resources and referrals, providing information, engaging in events and activities, and more.
- Administrative duties such as answering phones, faxing, printing, photocopying, etc.
- Respond to and document incidents in the drop-in as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, consistent with this job description and approved by Centre policies, procedures, and the Executive Director.
**Qualifications**
- While education is important, NPDWC equally values applicants that have work and/or lived experience.
- Experience providing support to participants who have or are experiencing problematic substance use; trauma; homelessness; and gender-based violence.
- Experience working in a community-based setting in the North End of Winnipeg and knowledge of inner-city resources.
- Knowledge of the impacts that colonization, residential schools, the 60’s scoop, the child welfare system and the genocide of Indigenous peoples, has had on their culture and language and sacred traditions.
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community for participants experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental illness, problematic substance use and gender-based violence.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work flexibly in a high stress environment, adapting to the needs of the participants.
- Basic computer skills and administrative skills.
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community for participants experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental illness, problematic substance use and sexual exploitation.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Non-judgmental, supportive and accepting attitude.
- Ability to de-escalate crisis situations in an appropriate manner.
- Due to operational requirements, this position must be filled by a woman or gender-diverse person.
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
