We are currently embarking on our new Master Plan and creation of a Community Conservation Campus. As one of the GTA’s Top Employers, we are seeking an experienced **Research and Compliance Clerk** to join our Wildlife Science team.

**Basic Function**: Reporting to the Research & Compliance Officer, this position provides assistance to the Research & Compliance Office within the Conservation Science Division and assists with core research operations and regulatory compliance activities. This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Conservation Science Plan and Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assists the Research & Compliance Officer with correspondence, memos, and reports, filing research documentation, special events and programs, as well as organizing and taking minutes at meetings.
- Performs editing and research duties as required, including data entry.
- Performs, but is not restricted to, the following research and compliance responsibilities:

- Coordinates the AZA’s Annual Report on Conservation Science (ARCS).
- Maintains specimen/biomaterials, data, animal behavioural observation, and researcher pass requests submitted to the Research & Compliance office.
- Coordinates scientific and/or pedagogical peer reviews and tracks animal user training.
- Assists with the ongoing Science Literacy campaign for the Animal Care & Use program, and ethics in research and compliance, and general science communication.
- Assists with conservation and science projects.
- Performs other divisional office duties as required.
- Reports to the supervisor the absence of or any defect in any equipment or protective device that they are aware of, and which may endanger themselves or another staff member.
- Reports to supervisor any contravention of the Ontario Health & Safety Act.
- Ensures all accidents and hazards are reported to supervisor immediately.
- Work in a safe manner at all times in compliance with Health & Safety, WHMIS and Toronto Zoo policies and procedures.
- Follows all branch instructions.
- Attends appropriate training courses as required.
- Other related duties as requested by the Manager.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of secondary school education along with the completion of a post-secondary program with a focus on biology or related science.
- Minimum three (3) years of related experience.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements for animal-based research.
- Must be proficient in business English and spelling.
- Must be able to prepare letters, reports, charts, and manuscripts.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must possess exceptional typing, computer skills, including the use of computerized programs, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive, and E-mail.
- Must have knowledge of medical and biological terminology.
- Must have working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Information Systems (WHMIS) legislation, Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Toronto Zoo Safety Policy.
