Our Law Clerk, Compliance & Intellectual Property (“IP”) will provide support to our Director, Global Legal & Compliance and to our Sr. Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property in a number of critical areas.

Supporting the Director, Global Legal & Compliance, this position is responsible for Global Code of Conduct Program administration, including intake of (and dispatch of investigations for) new complaints received through the global ethics hotline, and (with the Director) reporting, training and program design. The Law Clerk, Compliance & Intellectual Property will also participate in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our privacy programme, including monitoring the privacy department inbox, reviewing privacy-related assessments and handling Data Subject Requests received by McCain.

The Compliance & Intellectual Property Assistant/Paralegal will also conduct research and assist with special projects and provide administrative support to the Director, Global Legal & Compliance and the Sr. Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property.

**How You’ll Help**:
**Compliance**
- Coordinate intake and dispatch of new cases for investigation, when reported to the global compliance team; answer questions about the process
- Working with HR, administer the annual Code of Conduct certification process
- Compile and assemble periodic reports on compliance programme metrics; research and advise on best practices for tracking and reporting
- Disposition escalations from denied party screening and other first-level compliance checks

**Privacy**
- Coordinate data discovery process (with Technology and Data Governance teams)
- Review data privacy and data transfer impact assessments conducted by business partners
- Develop (with Technology, Data Governance, Cybersecurity and related teams) a training schedule and identify training needs within the organization

**Intellectual Property**
- Conduct trademark searches and related research
- Support the revision, management and maintenance of McCain’s trademark portfolio/database
- Communicate/coordinate with company stakeholders and with external legal counsel on trademark matters, including, for example, trademark filings, renewals, prosecution, and oppositions; and other IP matters

**About You**:

- Legal Assistant or Law Clerk Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent experience
- With required academics, at least three (3) years of relevant experience, preferably at a law firm. Without required academics, at least five (5) years related experience
- Broad experience and strong interest in each of the listed domains (Compliance, Privacy, Intellectual Property)
- Strong legal research skills
- Driven and self-motivated with a strong desire for learning
- Extremely organized with a strong sense of priority, urgency and commitment to deadlines
- Exceptional writing skills, and detail oriented along with fluency in English, communication in French is beneficial but not required
- Ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritize multiple projects
- Ability to work independently while functioning well in a team environment
- Ability to understand general business operations, issues and dynamics beyond the scope of basic legal issues
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of other departments in order to support their functions as well as to assist them in supporting the legal staff
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel) Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint an asset, but not required.
