Beaver Lake Cree Nation-Health Services is looking for a detail-oriented finance associate to assist our finance manager with day-to-day financial procedures. You will be managing account records, revising and updating financial reports, and preparing financial data for audits, reviews, and taxation. To ensure success as a finance associate, you should possess in-depth knowledge of best practices in financial management and experience in a similar environment. An outstanding finance associate will be someone whose expertise results in accurate financial reporting and efficient account management.

**Core Job Functions**:
**General Accounting and GAAP Compliance**
- Perform all duties in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the guidelines for accounting rules, procedures, and standards.

**Advisory Role**
- Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters, including financial systems, record-keeping, analysis, and reporting to the Health Director. This requires a solid understanding of the financial aspects of Health Services, including: payables, receivables, funding arrangements, and other key financial elements.

**Record-Keeping-Filing Financial Records and Data Entry**
- Maintain accurate records of financial documents and input data into the software system (Sage).

**Financial Reporting (Including Budgeting)**
- Generate financial statements, trial balances, and other relevant reports as required. A comprehensive understanding of the different financial statements is necessary, including:

- Trial Balance
- Chart of Accounts
- Cash Flow Statements
- Income Statement
- Balance Sheet
- Budget Allocations

**Internal Financial Reporting**
- Provide support for any financial-related reports, particularly focusing on expenses and payables.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of month-end financial duties, including related financial reporting.
- Support the Health Director and Program Coordinators/Supervisors in budget administration and allocation.

**Review and Analyze Contribution Agreements**
- This position requires in-depth review and analysis of contribution agreements. It is critical that the contribution agreements and the four primary funding approaches are understood, especially regarding additional funding and its intended purpose.

**Payroll and Tax Preparation**
- Payroll Management; record payroll information on time.
- Ensure that all payroll details match and statements and are accurate.

**Internal and External Audits**:

- Conduct audits on financial statements and internal/external processes. Work closely with external auditors, the finance department, and the Health Director to ensure compliance.
- Support year-end audit preparation, including the reconciliation of balance sheet
- accounts, journal entries, accruals, and general ledger entries.
- Prepare and review records for fixed assets and all annual tax returns (e.g., GST).
- Confirm funding and prepare the PAYE report from Indigenous Services Canada.

**Bank Reconciliation**
- Reconcile monthly bank statements and accounts on time, ensuring accuracy in transactions.

**Bookkeeping**
- Timely bill payments and bank reconciliation.
- Assist in monitoring accounts payable to ensure that purchases and expenditures align with the budget.

**Vendor Coordination**
- Resolve vendor issues as they arise, including verifying missed or double payments, and ensure accuracy in financial transactions with vendors.

**Implementing Financial Controls**
- Implement new processes to make financial processes more efficient and effective.

**Preferred Skills and Abilities**:

- Experience with SAGE 300 Accounting Software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK).
- Ability to build statements and financial reporting templates.
- Extensive knowledge of accounting standards, fiscal procedures, and applicable tax codes.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Great analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Superb organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of team.
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative on certain tasks.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize.

**Qualifications**:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or a combination of a Business Administration diploma and experience in accounting or First Nations finance.

**Additional Requirements**
- Current Criminal Record Check.
- Class 5 Drivers License.

Pay: From $33.80 per hour
