**Residence Life Coach**

**Responsibilities**:

- Communicate and become familiar with all the students in residence as soon as possible, while maintaining a positive warm rapport with each member of the residence community
- Assist and support students’ adjustments to life in Canada and the Hamilton community
- Coordinate, promote, and lead activities in order to provide a sense of community for all students
- Develop relationships with students to promote their academic, social, emotional and physical well-being (ASEP check).
- Participate in family groups to monitor students through ASEP check
- Liaise with Residence Life Supervisor(s) in regards to any student issues or concerns
- Communicate in a collaborative, cooperative, and solution-based manner with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to problem solve and seek support when necessary
- Support and check in with under 16 students on a regular basis
- Complete curfew check nightly while on shift, to make sure all students are safe and accounted for in residence
- Monitor students in the gym, during recreational activities, outside, etc.
- Attend training/meetings and nonresidential activities as assigned
- Use CIC/residence software, accurately to complete residence procedures such as checking students in and out of their room, monitoring sign outs, curfew, report maintenance and housekeeping issues, etc.
- Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and professionalism with students and staff members
- Have the utmost customer service and care when speaking with staff and students
- Keep student’s well-being at the forefront
- Ability to identify and adjust to opportunities for unplanned learning and mentoring
- Address students emotional and medical needs within scope following proper procedure.
- Give residence tours, when advised
- Regularly patrol premises/perform room checks to ensure safety of the students and all persons in the residence
- Communicate and appropriately question outside visitors that may enter the building (ex. Delivery personnel, agents, family members, etc.)
- Counsel students on cleanliness and housekeeping/maintenance issues
- Investigate any suspicious behaviors within scope and report to Residence Life Supervisor(s)
- Monitor front desk duties in a timely manner, which includes but not limited to answering the front desk phone(s), answer students’ inquiries, hand out packages, log in/log out students, check student’s in and out, provide over the counter medication, etc.
- Accurately complete necessary paperwork for students, such as charges forms, check in documents, etc.
- Other duties as assigned

**Job Requirements**
- Possess a natural ability to relate to youth from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to act with integrity in times of stress
- Strong organization and time management skills, including ability to properly prioritize assigned tasks
- Decision making and problem-solving skills are imperative
- Ability to be an effective member of interdepartmental team. Strive to support your colleagues and students with a positive attitude
- Maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality
- Be goal oriented, ability to work independently and respond to change in a flexible and open manner
- Experience addressing youth medical and emotional needs

**Qualifications**
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma or equivalent training/experience in a related field (Education, Child and Youth, Social Work, etc.) an asset
- G Drivers License is an asset
- Experience working with youth
- Experience working with youth in a diverse community would be an asset
- Experience creating, organizing and running events
- Fluent in verbal and written English
- Physical stamina: capable of frequently walking, standing and/or sitting throughout the shift
- Capable of lifting up to 12 kgs/25 pounds as required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, word, excel, 365 etc. Specifically Experience with databases, word processing, and spreadsheet programs

**Note**:

- Must have reliable transportation
- Expected to work at and rotate among different residences as required

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
