Xwchíyò:m (Cheam First Nation) is seeking a passionate and organized Recreation Worker.

The Recreation Worker will play a central role in organizing, coordinating, and leading engaging and meaningful programming for youth and families in the Cheam First Nation community. This position focuses on creating a safe and positive environment through sports activities in the gym, outdoor adventures, cultural outings, field trips, and family-centered events. Beyond organizing programs, the Recreation Worker will serve as a consistent and trusted presence, providing mentorship, encouragement, and support that contributes to the overall well-being and development of youth. The incumbent will collaborate closely with community members, Elders, and service providers to deliver impactful, culturally grounded programming that fosters belonging, growth, and fun

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate structured youth and family events including gym-based sports, outdoor recreation, field trips, and cultural activities.
- Create and maintain a calendar of engaging, age-appropriate programs throughout the year, ensuring a balance of recreation, education, and cultural enrichment.
- Build supportive and respectful relationships with youth, acting as a mentor and trusted adult.
- Organize transportation and logistics for events and field trips, including permissions, supplies, and safety plans.
- Maintain clear, confidential records of youth participation, program outcomes, and any incidents or interventions.
- Advocate for the interests and needs of youth both within the community and through external partnerships.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive space where youth feel safe, heard, and inspired to grow.
- Facilitate day-to-day program operations including set-up, supervision, and clean-up.
- Promote participation in activities and ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants.
- Monitor participants’ engagement and safety during programs and respond to incidents as required.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, incident reports, and participant feedback
- Uphold policies and procedures related to safety, child protection, and inclusion
- Other duties as required.

**Requirements**:

- Completion of a High School Diploma, with post-secondary education or training in Youth Work, Recreation, Social Work, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in youth programming, recreation, event coordination, or a similar community-based role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage youth and families in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, with experience managing scheduling, logistics, and budgeting for programs and events.
- Technologically proficient, with the ability to use digital tools for scheduling, communication, attendance tracking, and reporting.
- Familiarity with local resources, support networks, and culturally relevant services, particularly those serving Indigenous communities.
- Understanding trauma-informed practices, youth safeguarding principles, and holistic community wellness.
- Demonstrated passion for youth engagement and a commitment to culturally grounded, community-led program delivery.
- Willingness to learn about the Cheam First Nation community, Stó:lō culture, and Indigenous youth development.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract.
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector clearance.

Pay: $25.50-$28.50 per hour
