**Position Title**: Coordinator, Fieldhouse & Aquatics Staff (Maternity Leave Coverage)

**Reports to**: Manager, Facility & Programs

**Job Type**: Full-time, Contract - This position is to provide coverage during a maternity leave and is expected to last between 12 to 18 months.

**Hours**: 35 hours per week

**Location**: Variety Village, 3701 Danforth Avenue, Scarborough, ON M1N 2G2

**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Facility & Programs, the Coordinator, Fieldhouse & Aquatics Staff is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and smooth daily operations of Variety Village’s Fieldhouse & Aquatics facilities. This includes supervising staff, maintaining equipment, managing scheduling, and addressing operational issues. The Coordinator plays a key role in staff training, hiring facility staff, purchasing materials and equipment, completing administrative paperwork, and ensuring that all general operations are in place for the facility to function effectively.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Oversee staff scheduling using _When I Work_, managing shifts, staff profiles, and schedule adjustments.
- Ensure adequate staffing by addressing dropped shifts, attendance concerns, and seat coverage.
- Support staff in resolving customer service and facility issues to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive member experience.
- Provide coaching and direction to facility supervisors overseeing the field of play.
- Schedule and manage senior program instructors, including vacation and lieu time approvals.
- Assist with seasonal recruitment, including screening, interviews, and practical assessments, in collaboration with HR.
- Facilitate staff orientations and coordinate in-house certifications and training.
- Distribute uniforms and materials to support staff onboarding and understanding of expectations, procedures, and policies.
- Address staff performance and contract renewals in coordination with HR.
- Report workplace injuries and safety concerns in accordance with organizational procedures and legal requirements.
- Plan and deliver in-service training sessions with input from the Facility Manager and Program Coordinators.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure certifications are current and training needs are met.
- Conduct monthly facility inspections to ensure compliance with Health & Safety, AODA, and Plan to Protect.
- Manage facility inventory, ensuring supplies are well-stocked and equipment is maintained.
- Support on-site organizational events in coordination with Events and Communications teams.
- Respond to and de-escalate member complaints and concerns.
- Recommend and coordinate equipment purchases, repairs, or replacements.
- Perform other duties as required.

**Qualifications and Key Competencies**:

- Valid National Lifeguard - Pool, Standard First Aid with CPRC and AED.
- Airway Management and First Aid Instructor certification is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Recreation/Leisure, Sports Administration or Physical education is an asset.
- 2-3 years' experience working in Facility Operations or Community Recreation in a supervisor role.
- Strong knowledge of disabilities, including accessibility, best practices, and demonstrated ability to adapt services and environments to support individuals with disabilities in a fitness or recreational setting.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and issues effectively.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Adaptability, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- The ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety protocols, Ontario Pool Regulations for Pools & Spas, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Fire Marshall and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHIMIS).
