Are you a CPA ready to take the next step in your career? Join our dynamic and growing team on beautiful Vancouver Island as a **Controller** for an 18-month maternity leave contract. This is your chance to lead the accounting function for a real estate developer, driving performance, reporting, and business intelligence in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.
**What you will be doing**:
As a Controller, you will be a key member of the Finance leadership team, responsible for:
- Manage all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for a growing real estate development company, including billing, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger functions;
- Review journal entries and month end working papers prepared by the accounting team;
- Prepare complex and non-routine journal entries and working papers;
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP;
- Conduct account analysis and reconciliation to maintain the reliability of financial data;
- Prepare expense analysis and recommendations as requested;
- Developing and enforcing accounting policies and internal controls;
- Assist with the development and achievement of financial benchmarks, metrics and other KPIs in line with the strategic growth plan of the business;
- Assist with the development of financial analysis and management reporting to support management decision making;
- Ensure timely and accurate CRA compliance and submissions;
- Coaching and mentoring accounting staff to build team capability;
- Leading process improvements and implementing efficiency initiatives;
- Coordinating with external accountants/auditors.
**What you need to bring**:
- CPA designation (required);
- Thorough knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS;
- Experience in cost accounting
- Strong financial analysis capabilities;
- Background in public practice or industry with hands-on financial statement preparation or audit;
- Advanced Excel and MS Office skills;
- Strong decision-making and deadline management skills;
- Ability to adapt and demonstrate resiliency in response to a demanding and fast-paced work environment;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities;
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with project and company stakeholders;
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and a results-oriented approach;
- Attention to detail with the ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy;
- Strong prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlines and take responsibility for your work;
- A proactive, adaptable mindset with a high-level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Leadership skills with a collaborative, supportive approach;
- Experience with ERP systems (Viewpoint/Spectrum considered an asset);
- Experience in real estate development is a strong asset.
**What do we offer you?**
