**Who is Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge?**

Cowessess First Nation is the first Indigenous rights holder Nation to sign a coordination agreement in Canada. Cowessess First Nation asserted jurisdiction when it comes to child welfare and family services through the implementation of the _**Miyo Pimatisowin Act**_ and respected by Canada through their Bill C-92 legislation. Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge (CRBCL), which has jurisdiction from the Miyo Pimatisowin Act, changes the approach of child and family services by providing support in a way that is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and cultural practices. Rather than the common intervention approach, CRBCL provides empowerment through a prevention approach with healing and prevention as the preferred method for ensuring children and their families are safe and growing together in a healthy way.

**Position Summary**

If you have experience within the human services field and have a passion for advocating for children and youth, this could be the opportunity for you Reporting to the Director of Prevention and Healing, the Eagle Nest (Kihew Wacistwan) Family Support Worker works with one of our programs that supports, develops, and empowers community members. This is an opportunity to work closely with children, youth and families and Cowessess First Nations community. This position will oversee and help develop programming that will promote the healing of trauma including intergenerational trauma.
- Passionate about creating change and advocating for families within provincial social services.
- Willing and able to teach and guide families on traditional child rearing practices.
- Organized and able to use your administrative skills in parenting, budgeting and planning
- Focused on traditional Indigenous practices and willing to help all families in their personal development and healing journey.
- Open-minded, ready to embrace diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in public.
- Experienced in working as a team player, willing to collaborate to establish an effective working environment and relationship with co-workers, children, youth and families.
- Knowledgeable in various prevention practices and models.

**Qualifications**

**Education and Experience**
- University degree within the Human Services field.
- 2 years of relevant work experience or 3+ years of related training.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of the Miyo Pimatisowin Act and Bill C92 is highly desirable.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License and be willing to travel on a regular basis
- Willing to work overtime, including evenings and weekends as necessary

**Skills & Abilities**
- An effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form genuine and trusting relationships with children, parents, and coworkers.
- Knowledgeable in utilizing and coordinating various community and government-based resources.
- Able to lead conversation, guiding families in goal setting and establishing milestones.
- An active listener with the ability to display empathy, patience and understanding.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Self motivated and ability to work productively with minimum supervision.
- Knowledgeable of addiction issues and how they impact everyday living.
- Self aware and engages in holistic wellness activities/principles.

In addition to above, the incumbent must provide a successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search as well as be willing and able to commute to the CRBCL Head Office on a regular basis, which is located on Cowessess First Nation, SK.
