**Position Summary**: Under the supervision of the Clinical team, the Mental Health and Addictions Worker provides counseling, 1-1 supervision, and supports to individuals and families dealing with mental illness and substance use challenges. The role emphasizes a trauma-informed approach, addressing intergenerational trauma and including grief and loss.
As a **Mental Health and Addictions Worker at AYEC**, you’ll collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and interdisciplinary teams. Your communication skills, time management, and problem-solving abilities are crucial for handling caseloads and managing crisis situations. A positive work environment is essential.
**Essential Functions**:
- Provide 1:1 support to the individuals
- Conduct client needs assessments and develop personalized treatment plans.
- Offer supportive counseling to individuals and families.
- Provide services within a person-centered care framework.
- Assist with prevention, intervention, and community awareness activities
- Implement workplan initiatives.
- Seek consultation and maintain professional competence.
**Qualifications**:
- University Degree or College Diploma in Social Work or related field (e.g., Addictions & Mental Health Diploma, Social Services Worker, Development support Worker).
- Knowledge of mental health and prevention strategies.
- Valid First Aid, CPR, and Mental Health First Aid certifications.
- Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.

- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Commitment to confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case-noting systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid G License with access to own vehicle.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and occasional weekends.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) certificate (within 30 days).
**Additional Assets**: Experience with addictions, knowledge of mental health disorders (including borderline personality disorder), and familiarity with trauma-informed care will be valuable assets for this role.
