**The Role**:
We are looking for a Safety and Risk Management Officer to support Health and Safety and Environmental regulatory and NRC programs/policies compliance within the Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre’s (CPFC) facilities. The Safety and Risk Management Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

As a Safety and Risk Management Officer, you will collaborate with all levels of the employees (director, team leaders, facility managers, project managers, and technical officers), designated Health, Safety and Environment Branch (HSEB), Client Service Advisors, Committees on Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) members, and relevant Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) employees.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform facility and project safety and environmental hazard and risk assessments in collaboration with designated employees and develop mitigation actions. Help execute and follow up on progress on action plans;
- Identify and maintain a ‘live’ updated list of applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations with the help of the HSEB Client Service Advisors. Identify any gaps and develop/update operational policies and procedures accordingly. Assist the cleanrooms and facilities to meet the regulatory requirements;Provide technical expertise in developing and deploying equipment-level and/or lab-specific procedures and guidelines (e.g., confined spaces, lock-out/tag-out, material handling, working alone, chemical management) that ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and established NRC programs, policies, and directives;Identify HSE training requirements and monitor the status of training for employees of the labs. Select training providers and resources in collaboration with the HSEB Client Service Advisors;Lead complex and multi-party involved hazardous occurrence incident investigations and work with the CPFC teams to develop actions to address the root cause(s);Perform assigned workplace inspections along with designated lab employees to ensure safe operations of the equipment and machinery. Audit the lab’s compliance with NRC HSE policies, directives, and programs and report the findings to the lab management team. Recommend and help implement corrective actions and opportunities for improvement;
- Maintain records of lab safety and environmental incidents, workplace inspections, audits, and corrective actions. Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing HSE performance, trends, and areas needing improvement for management review.

**Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
A College Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Applied science or in a related field would be considered as an asset.

Registration with the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering would be considered an asset.
