Forklift Operator

Reports to: Supervisor - Materials, Forklift Lead

Supervises: None

Internal Contacts: Supply Chain workers, Production Workers, Managers and Supervisors

External Contacts: Delivery Drivers, Supplier Personnel

Key Responsibility Areas:
**Equipment Operation**:

- Operates forklift to load, unload, transport and store goods. Correctly secures loads when required. Precision and care is required for heavy lifts and painted assemblies.
- Occasionally loads, unloads and moves products and materials by hand or using basic material handling equipment.
- Ensures all materials are safely placed in yard or warehouse locations.
- Follows all safety guidelines and prescribed SOPs, performs risk assessment as required.

**Receiving Materials**:

- Unloads inbound goods from trucks or other delivery methods and moves product to storage locations.
- Inspects and verifies incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and damaged goods.
- Stacks and stores materials in the appropriate areas.

**Equipment Maintenance**:

- Conducts daily maintenance and safety checks, perform minor maintenance and maintains internal record-keeping for maintenance records.
- Maintains the equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.

**Projects / Other Assignments**:

- May assist with warehouse tasks as required.
- Works on related projects or initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:
**Education**:

- Grade 12

**Experience**:

- Related shipping / receiving experience in a yard or warehouse setting.
- Forklift operating experience.

**Certification**:

- Forklift operator’s certification

**Working Conditions**:

- Industrial manufacturing shop environment which may involve loud noise and dusty conditions.
- Forklift drivers spend a large proportion of each day in their machine, requiring attention to ergonomics and self-care. Assistance is available.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Worker must dress appropriately.
- Correct and consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment is a requirement of this position. Worker will provide CSA-approved safety footwear; all other PPE is provided.
