**Scope**

The Support Group Facilitator is responsible for organizing and facilitating regular groups for immigrant women, seniors, youth, and adults from various ethnic groups; the areas of facilitation will include settlement, employment, and other topics and activities. Facilitator is expected to work co-operatively with others; demonstrate flexibility in organizing work; show a high degree of initiative, discernment, and resourcefulness; must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate thoughtfulness in decision-making.

**Responsibilities**
- Deliver direct services in terms of group facilitation and supports that addresses the needs of new immigrants by organizing newcomer clubs, conversation circles supporting language learning, and other groups
- Help newcomers to establish social and professional networks for newcomers to be engaged and feel welcomed in the community
- Foster engagement between newcomers and Canadians by involving newcomers in mentorship, community groups, recreation, and other activities
- Provide comprehensive information on orientation to Canadian society
- Create opportunities for mentoring individually and in a group, multi-way interaction, and cross-cultural awareness
- Deliver orientation sessions, volunteer training sessions, and regular follow-up for successful mentoring
- Increase accessibility by delivering services at itinerant public and community spaces in collaboration with other service providers
- Maintain and expand client’s base through outreach, community penetration, and itinerate functions, which includes off-site visits and promoting community networks to link newcomers
- Effectively track activities and provide accurate reporting to Programs Manager

**Qualifications**
- A degree or diploma in counselling, education, or group facilitation, and at least three years of experience working with immigrant communities or a combination of experience and education that fulfills the requirements
- Strong group facilitation skills with three years of experience in working with groups
- Knowledge of immigration and refugee services and of the ethno-specific programs and services
- Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting and systemic barrier facing integration in education, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life
- Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience in outreach, community development, and marketing of program and services
- Ability to work flexible schedules on an as-needed basis
- A second language is an asset
