**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Public Health, the Manager, Communicable Disease Control (CDC) plays a central role in the delivery of CDC programs for the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). The manager ensures consistent and appropriate policies, guidelines and standards are developed and applied throughout the region. Working with the Director, Public Health and the Medical Health Officer responsible for Communicable Disease, plans and manages fiscal, human and material resources for the CDC Program. Works in close collaboration with Prevention Services, Child, Youth and Family Health, Health Protection and Environmental Services.

Provides direction and support to VIHA CDC Program staff. Liaises with key staff in Infection Prevention and Control, and various other VIHA programs. Establishes and maintains linkages with key partners in other agencies, including all levels of government, health authorities, British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), and various community agencies.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent and seven years' experience in Communicable Disease Control in progressively senior management positions.

Must be eligible for registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives.

Experience in service delivery in urban, and rural and remote settings an asset.

A Masters Degree in a health related discipline is highly desirable.

- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the field of Public Health and Communicable Disease management. Experience in policy development at the Health Authority level.
- Project management and community development skills
- Ability to lead, direct, and develop staff
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work independently and with initiative
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
