**SUMMARY**
Community Needs Assessments seek to gather accurate information representative of the needs of a community. Assessments are performed prior to taking action and are used to determine current situations and identify issues for action. Needs assessments establish the essential foundation for vital planning
Accountable to the Child and Family Services Coordinator
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Identify the essential resources that are already available within the community
- Identify the essential resources missing
- Determine how best to use, develop, or obtain those resources
- Use questionnaires, surveys, & focus groups to collect information and data
- Ensure appropriate cultural opening when coordinating meetings both within the agency, for clients, families, communities, and other collaterals
**SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS**
- Solid knowledge of Child Welfare in remote First Nations communities, procedures & policies, Bill C-92, Family Risk Assessment, and Needs Assessment.
- Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in responding to child welfare
- Knowledge of external services and service agencies available
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills
- Computer literate
- Ability to travel to our 6 remote communities frequently
- Ability to work with First Nation communities and people
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Ability to meet deadlines and work flexible hours
- Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to understand or speak any of our KO community’s dialect will be considered an asset
