Grounds Loader Operator

**The start date will follow the selection process.**

**Characteristic Duties**: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Maintenance Services.

1. Operate various grounds equipment including: wheel loader, backhoe, dump & plow trucks Municipal sidewalk tractors and attachments, snowblowers, sweepers, augers
2. Coordinate, train and ensure compliance and safe operation of grounds equipment and activities.
3. Coordinate and complete the clearing of snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways and parking lots within the Greater Sudbury Housing Operations (GSHO) portfolio.
4. Coordinate and assist with the sanding of all sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots within the portfolio.
5. Document each property visited and a description of work performed.
6. Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and perform repairs when necessary.
7. Report any incidents/accidents to your Manager.
8. Coordinate and complete the clearing of snow from vacant unit driveways and sidewalks.
9. Ensure and assist with the removal of icicles from above resident doorways.
10. Coordinate with grounds staff the sweeping of parking lots and sidewalks.
11. Coordinate with contractors the removal of snow from properties.
12. Repair and replace chain link and privacy screen fences.
13. Repair and install lawns, repair sidewalks and driveways.
14. Assist with the coordination of fleet vehicle repairs.
15. Assist with leading the grounds crew, lead hand rate will be paid.
16. Organize and perform exterior vacant unit preparations for rental.
17. Cut and trim trees.
18. Repair and clear storm sewers to prevent flooding.
19. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
20. Shift work, on-call, and night shift required.
**Location of Work**:
21. Primarily all buildings and properties within an assigned portfolio area and occasionally within all other portfolio areas, properties and buildings within the GSHO portfolio as assigned.
22. Many properties within the GSHO portfolio of properties and selected non-profit housing units.
23. Assignments including temporary redeployment to other areas.
**Recording and Accountability**:
24. Completing reports is an essential function of this position.
25. Report to supervisor required maintenance repairs, progress reports, tenant disturbances.
26. Complete and log work orders.
27. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
28. Perform other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- Over two and one half (2½) years up to and including five (5) years of experience operating a wheel loader.
- A good working knowledge of snow clearing operations and grounds maintenance duties.
- Demonstrated ability and skill to complete winter grounds work and techniques, operation of equipment and hand tools, and grounds maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices and proper use of materials.
- Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work and meet set deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team environment with mínimal supervision and to follow instructions exercising tact and diplomacy.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- All employees are required to treat residents with respect and tact while delivering excellent customer service.
- Provide, at own cost, a Criminal Reference Check.
- Requires the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid “DZ” driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record.
