Job Summary
The Research Assistant will work at UBC campus in the Faculty of Forestry in the Wildlife Coexistence Lab. They will assist the Principal Investigator (Cole Burton) and WildCo postdocs and graduate students in the collection, processing, analysis, interpretation and reporting of wildlife survey data and the maintenance and troubleshooting of associated survey equipment. They will lead the summer field crew in collecting image data from camera traps.

Organizational Status
Reports to the PI, Dr. Cole Burton

Work Performed

  • Support PI Cole Burton on preparation, revision and submission of scientific manuscripts for peer review.

  • Conduct literature review, data collection and analysis, and technical writing in collaboration with PI and other lab members.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Work is assessed on an ongoing basis by supervisor. Consequences would be delays in producing scientific reports that are expected by collaborators and funders.

Work is supervised by PI (Cole Burton)

Supervision Given

  • Training in WildCo field and lab protocols

  • Regular meetings to review work performance and adjust activities/protocols as needed.

  • Will provide some supervision of other research assistants during field data collection and processing.

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation and minimum of 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
