10937BR Victim Services Volunteer Job Posting Halifax Regional Police is a diverse police agency that is committed to community service and partnering with Halifax Regional Municipality to continually enhance and improve safety and security in our neighbourhoods. We are one of the largest police agencies in Atlantic Canada.Halifax Regional Police is looking for individuals who have a passion for volunteering and a desire to make a difference in our community.Applications are accepted throughout the year, with annual recruitment only taking place in the spring.Victim Services volunteers provide emotional support, crisis intervention and referral information to victims of crime at the scene, during evening hours. Volunteers provide support to victims who may have been involved in domestic violence, sexual assault, robberies, assaults, motor vehicle accidents, etc.As a volunteer with Victim Services, you will:Commit to 1-2 shifts a month during weekends from 6:00 p.m. to midnightAttend meetings and training sessionsLearn about supports in the community and provide referralsWork with a partner to assist citizens in crisis situationsTake notes and forward information to Victim Services staffLocation:Based in Dartmouth, travel throughout metro Halifax.Qualifications:19 years of age or olderExperience providing listening support to clients in a human services capacityValid Nova Scotia Driver’s Licence Candidates must have reliable transportation to and from the Dartmouth police office due to late evenings and no available public transportationGood driving recordComputer savvyAble to attend training, meetings and eventsAble to make a minimum one-year commitment.Knowledge and Attributes:Mature with excellent interpersonal skillsProficient written and verbal communication skillsAble to adapt in a fast-paced, ever-changing environmentSelf-motivated, responsible and reliableAbility to follow established proceduresCandidates being considered for Victim Services volunteers must successfully meet the security clearance requirements administered by Halifax Regional Police.Submission requirements: Please include a cover letter and a resume outlining both paid and unpaid (volunteer) experience in your résumé.CLOSING DATE: Posting open until positions are filled.Candidates must have an active email account.
