The Emergency & Specialized Care cluster includes paramedicine, fire services, emergency telecommunications, funeral services, and bioscience programming. The bioscience team operates Ontario’s only college cadaver laboratory, supporting advanced learning in anatomy and physiology for students across multiple programs. Faculty and staff work collaboratively to deliver hands-on education that integrates applied research, simulation, and lab-based discovery learning.About the Bioscience Laboratory Specialist Role:Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Bioscience Laboratory Specialist supports the operation of Humber’s bioscience laboratories and tutorials. The Specialist facilitates lab and tutorial sessions in anatomy and physiology, performs cadaver dissection and maintenance, and ensures that laboratory spaces and materials are safe, organized, and aligned with curricular requirements. This position also mentors co-op students and supports scholarship of teaching and learning initiatives within the faculty.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare, facilitate, and support laboratory and tutorial sessions in anatomy and physiology.Coordinate and perform cadaver dissections and specimen maintenance to meet program learning outcomes.Provide functional guidance to co-op students and assist with their training and development.Maintain and monitor equipment, inventory, and safety protocols in bioscience laboratories, including hazardous-materials handling.Develop and administer testing processes such as bell-ringer examinations and review sessions.Collaborate with faculty on applied research and development of learning tools (e.g., 3D printing, digital resources).Support lab upgrades, equipment acquisitions, and continuous-improvement initiatives.Ensure compliance with Humber policies, Ministry guidelines, and industry standards for laboratory safety and operations.QualificationsAbout You:You are a detail-oriented scientific professional who thrives in a collaborative teaching environment and values safe, high-quality learning experiences for students.EducationPost-graduate degree (Master’s in Human Anatomy or related discipline) required.WHMIS, Standard First Aid, and CPR certifications required.Experience/SkillsMinimum two years of experience facilitating adult learning in an anatomy, physiology, or science laboratory environment.Demonstrated expertise in cadaveric dissection, specimen maintenance, and lab operations.Experience coordinating laboratory resources and mentoring students or staff.Strong technical skills in MS Office and laboratory equipment operation.Knowledge of biosafety standards and chemical-handling procedures.Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work independently within a high-demand, multi-program environment requiring accuracy and attention to detail.If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you At Humber Polytechnic we don't just accept difference we celebrate it Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and a progressive mindset goes a long way at Humber.
