Victim Services Assistant Coordinator

Definition
Under the direction of the Victim Services Program Manager and the general direction of the Officer in Charge, provides direct support services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. The position delivers crisis intervention, emotional support, information, and referrals, and assists clients in navigating the criminal justice system. The role also supports program administration and coordination as required.
Examples of work performed
Providing direct support services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma;Deliver crisis intervention, emotional support, information, and referrals over the phone and on site;Liaise with criminal justice partners including RCMP, Crown Counsel, Probation and the Coroner's office; Provide court-related support to clients, including information on court processes, court orientation, court accompaniment, and related duties; Attend police crisis call-outs when required and provide immediate emotional support to victims and witnesses;Provide information regarding available community resources and liaise with agencies to obtain support services for clients;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts;Assist victims in completing Crime Victims Assistance, Victim Impact Statements and other relevant forms;Establishing, maintaining and updating confidential client files in accordance with program standards and privacy requirements;Performing administrative and support duties, including but not limited to data entry, reporting, scheduling, and file management as required; and,Performing other related duties as assigned. Hours of Work: This position is regularly scheduled for 20 hours per week. From time to time, flexibility in hours may be required to support operational and client service needs and will be managed in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Minimum training and experience
Secondary school graduation;Completion of a degree or diploma in the social sciences field plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated ability to offer support using a trauma informed lens approach; effective communication, and basic counselling skills; victim service training is preferred;Ability to obtain and maintain Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance;Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively in high-stress situations and critical incidents; Strong professionalism, a non-judgmental attitude, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially;Knowledge of victim issues and an understanding of the Criminal Justice System is an asset; Strong organizational, multitasking and time management skills; Proficiency with computers, preferably in a Windows environment using Outlook and Word; Excellent oral and written communications skills;Accurate typing speed of 50 w.p.m.;A class 5 BC Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record; andReliable transportation for work purposes.
