The Community Outreach Worker may be working in both clinic and community settings providing a wide range of services including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment. This position will play a key role in navigation, advocacy, and the coordination of resources and services within Mental Health and Addictions and the community. They must be knowledgeable and use evidence based psychosocial interventions (e.g. MI, SRP, CBT), principles of harm reduction, and community development. They will serve as a resource to colleagues, clients and family members and will create and enrich linkages with organizations and agencies within their community.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:Bachelor’s Degree in Social WorkRegistered with relevant regulatory body Nova Scotia College of Social WorkersOne (1) year post BSW experience in community outreach, group facilitation, early/ brief intervention, and community developmentKnowledge regarding the principles of community health, outreach, harm reduction, health promotion and prevention (e.g., mental health, addictions, housing support etc.)High level oral, written and group facilitation skills along with excellent problem-solving skills and experience with conflict resolutionA well-developed awareness of community resourcesAbility to take initiative and work independently with limited supervisionHigh level of Computer software knowledge (PowerPoint, Excel, and willingness to learn ASSIST Training)Non-violent crisis intervention, Standard First Aid, CPR, suicide risk assessment and intervention training, Mental Health First Aid requiredDemonstrated ability to function and participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary teamAnnually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by Nova Scotia HealthValid driver's license and access to reliable transportation where travel will be requiredCompetencies in other languages an asset, French preferred Minimum one (1) year of experience required.
