Break through at Brock.Post End Date:February 4, 2026 at 11:59 PMThis job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the Administrative Professional (Employee Group)About the Role: Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Facilities Management, the Director, Sustainability & Asset Management is responsible for the provision, development and oversight of infrastructure, assets, and operational plans and standards, efficient management and sustainable operation of the university’s facilities and infrastructure. Additionally, the position is responsible for the provision, development and oversight of effective and efficient day-to-day custodial, waste management and grounds maintenance. The Director, Sustainability & Asset Management provides leadership to the Sustainability & Asset Management division, and Facilities Management as a member of the Directors Team. The Director, Sustainability & Asset Management will: Lead the development of annual operational plans for all physical assets/buildings within the university, including financial budgets for utilities, custodial services and other property/building expenses; Lead the development of annual maintenance service standards/ levels including preventative maintenance standards on related equipment and building life systems, cleaning standards, and external services; Develop policies and programs related to property management and planning to ensure effective property management; Oversee, administer and review property agreements, service contracts, and other property management undertakings; Develop, coordinate, and maintain an effective planned preventative/predictive maintenance inspection schedule and facility condition audit program for all university infrastructure, buildings and utility systems; Participate in the review and development of construction and renovation projects, including project scope development and project prioritization; Develop property tracking processes and information databases to improve access to property condition trends, and inform proactive planning & decision-making; Oversee and review building systems and operations to identify opportunities for improvement, and develop and implement strategies to address the needs and optimize the facilities’ operations; Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial environmental, energy and sustainability-related laws and regulations; Develop and implement best practices on annual energy, greenhouse gases and pollutants quantification, reporting and verification, including data management; Oversee lands, forests, and surface infrastructure owned by Brock throughout their life cycles, including information/data/records, planning, preventative maintenance, and condition audits; Develop and manage effective programs on carbon management and energy conservation and demand management to meet (or exceed) consumption reduction goals while maintaining adequate indoor environmental conditions; Act as a thought leader in sustainability by understanding current and future challenges, setting priorities, and developing short and long-term strategic plans; Lead the development of the operations and maintenance budget process, based on the operational plans for custodial and grounds. Key Skills and Experience: Masters in Sustainability or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered; Significant and progressive management experience; Current Ontario driver’s licence (Class G) with an acceptable driver’s abstract; Experience in the broader public sector related to the provision of property/asset management and sustainability within a unionized environment, utilizing in-house and out-sourced resources; Sustainability and environmental management, related to facilities, operations, waste and behavioural change in the higher education sector; Experience green building standards, working on environmental legislation, compliance, sustainability rankings and frameworks (, UN’s Sustainable Development Goals); Experience in sustainability and decarbonization projects and initiatives, and in green building rating systems; Awareness and understanding of applicable legislation (such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Environmental Protection Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act); Ability to establish and implement standards of work, and prepare written reports, procedures, and guidelines; Ability to estimate costs and manage budgets; Knowledge of best practices in custodial services, grounds maintenance, property management, non-hazardous waste reduction, and risk management; Strong project management, strategic planning, and presentation skills; Strong communication, mediation, negotiation, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to build strong relationships; Exhibits professionalism, tact and the ability to represent the University in a professional and appropriate manner; Ability to supervise, lead, coach, mentor, and inspire a large team where individuals work independently; Ability to take initiative, use good judgment, creatively solve problems, and find efficiencies; Strong decision making with the ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment. Preferred or Asset Skills: Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation in mechanical or electrical scope of practice; Emergency preparedness training; Asbestos management training; Certified Energy Manager; Certified Measurement and Verification Professional; and LEED Green Associate or LEED Associate Professional designation. Salary and Total Rewards: Job Grade Q, Salary Scale ($110,092-$178,528); Target Hiring Range: $110,092-$130,000* This is a permanent position that includes: Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
