With a strong emphasis on training, process consistency, and operational excellence, the firm leverages modern tools and a fully virtual operating model to support agents across the end-to-end mortgage lifecycle. Role Overview: The Mortgage Underwriting Coach will serve as a technical expert and trusted advisor to Mortgage Agents, providing coaching, live training, and hands-on file support to ensure mortgage applications are submission-ready, lender-compliant, and positioned for successful funding. This role blends deep underwriting knowledge with an approachable teaching style—helping agents build confidence, strengthen their underwriting skillset, and navigate complex scenarios through a positive, learning-focused experience. The position is fully virtual, with support delivered via phone, email, and Roam HQ.  This remote position will require the candidate to be in PST or MST Time Zones. Key Responsibilities:  Agent Coaching & File Support: Coach mortgage agents in underwriting their mortgage files, including reviewing applications, supporting documents, lender qualifications, and signing packages. Guide agents in identifying where a deal fits best (lender selection) based on deal attributes and documentation. Brainstorm solutions and advise agents on how to position files for approval while remaining compliant with regulatory requirement. Provide guidance on expectations, turnaround times, and submission-ready setup in the mortgage application platform. Actively communicate and collaborate with agents throughout the mortgage process to ensure each file has the best chance to fund (“fight for every deal that deserves it”). Empower agents to grow their underwriting skills, build confidence, and develop independence through practical examples, constructive feedback, and mentorship. Act as the first point of contact for agent underwriting questions, providing timely and thorough responses to enhance their experience. Evaluate rookie agent underwriting performance and provide guidance to improve skills and file quality. Live Training & Department Support: Manage the virtual live training room, including a queue of agents with underwriting inquiries. Deliver live training sessions to agents, as required. Contribute to a culture of continuous learning by developing educational resources, sharing insights on lender practices, and encouraging best practices across the team. Collaborate and brainstorm with the underwriting team to continuously improve department workflows and business processes. Keep up to date on lender policies, products, and procedures, and provide legally responsible guidance to agents. Report any performance or compliance issues to the supervisor. Operational & Administrative Responsibilities: Manage deal flow and maintain funding ratios with lenders. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Must hold a valid mortgage license in either/or: Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick (If not currently licensed, must be willing to obtain a mortgage license within 90 days of employment.) 5+ years of experience in the mortgage industry. Demonstrated high-level understanding of the underwriting process. Strong familiarity with a range of lenders, including A, B, and private lenders. Ability to simplify complex underwriting concepts for coaching new agents. Professional conduct and approach to work. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong grasp of the English language. Strong typing and computer skills. High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information. Experience with Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and Finmo is an asset. Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset. Previous coaching or mentoring experience is an asset. Performance Criteria: Show up prepared and on time to scheduled coaching sessions consistently.
