The incumbent’s primary responsibility is to support Investigations and Focus teams and case plans as per direction from the primary social worker on the file to meet both individual, family and agency goals within the Children Services and Child Protection Teams. This includes services to children and families under the authority of the Child Protection Act who may be residing in alternative care homes. Duties will include but are not limited to: Review current case plan and assist in expanding goals as they become known through supports to the child. Gather and review past child protection file information. Contact collateral sources to gather information. Be present with social worker in interviews with children, parents, caregivers, and other relevant sources of information. Conduct home visits, observe family members interactions and observe living conditions to provide information and education relating to parenting and safety of children. Arrange for and attend medical exams for children, provide information to the professional on the child’s well-being.  Complete appropriate documentation and be present in the service of documents to parents. Coordinate with the Social Worker to arrange appropriate placements and gather required information to support the placement. In consultation with the Social Worker, Compile and gather information throughout the course of C&FS involvement to make referrals to community agencies as required.    Provide case information to the Social Worker and supervisor. Provide transportation of clients as required. Engaging in case planning activities under the direction of Social Worker to prevent separation and to preserve the integrity of the family. Make referrals to appropriate services as assessed by Social Worker. Maintain ongoing communication with service providers as needed. Work to develop partnerships with service providers and community. Other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree with a Major in Social Sciences with considerable related experience, or college diploma in human services field with extensive related experience. Prior experience in child protection is preferred. Applicants with less experience requirement may be considered. Good oral and written skills, as well as computer literacy and the ability to manage time effectively. Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered. Knowledge of child development, as well as the impact of abuse or neglect on the child and family. Knowledge of community resources, including but not limited to Social Support, Mental Health and Addiction Services, school systems, police, housing, medical/pediatric services, counselling agencies, Family Violence prevention, shelters, etc.  Knowledge and experience in assessing the needs of communities, families and children. Ability to form relationships with parents and children. Ability to interpret and understand the role of the Director of Child Protection, the Child Protection Act and the regulations, the Adoption Act, Child Protection policies and protocols, Foster Parent policies, residential services, and the Youth in Care Network. Must have knowledge of family systems/dynamics, and appropriate use of authority. Ability to be independent as well as work in a team setting, and collaboration with other service providers. The employee is required, as a condition of employment, to provide a motor vehicle for the purposes of carrying out employment functions as well as a valid PEI driver’s license. The requirement is subject to review every 12 months as per UPSE Civil Collective Agreement. Good previous work and attendance record, and an acceptable criminal record check, vulnerable sector check and child protection check. This competition may be used to fill future job vacancies.
