Job DescriptionAs a member of the Environmental Services team, the Porter will safely and efficiently transport patients, equipment and miscellaneous items within the confines of the facilities buildings by various methods including by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed as directed.Follow all established procedures in accordance with the patient flow systemProperly utilize hand-held technologyTransport patients, charts, specimen, pharmaceuticals and the required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and efficient mannerCollect and clean equipment as necessaryAssist with facility transport activities as assignedAssist nursing staff with patient lifts by locating necessary equipment and assist in transportation of patients and specimens as directed by nursing staffTransport and exchange blue ware, case cart, crash cartsOperate wheel chair washerRTLS – Real Time Locating Systems, porters will use this service to locate wheelchairs beds and stretchersRespond to Code Medical with wheelchair/stretcher when requiredActively participate in team activities, schedule training sessions and mandatory meetingsOther duties as assignedQualificationsHalton Healthcare endeavors to hire individuals who are competent in their chosen profession and who exemplify our mission, vision and values of accountability, respect and compassion which guide our individual behaviours and attitudes.Grade 12 diploma requiredRecent related experience in similar environment requiredAbility to use technology in a hand-held device to accept and complete tasksDemonstrated ability to operate stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.Must possess English language verbal communications skills and literacy skills sufficient to understand and communicate both verbal and written instructions, read product labels and procedure manualsGood interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with patients, visitors, medical staff and other hospital personnelAbility to set and adjust priorities, multi-task and manage time effectively in response to changing unit needsPhysical ability to perform all aspects of the job including standing for long periods, repetitive walking, reaching, repetitive bending, pushing and lifting using good body mechanics .Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Must be able to work independently, following specific instructions, procedures and schedules.Must be able to work where exposed to infection, blood/human waste, odors and work interruptions.Must be confident and adaptable to working in a variety of clinical settings and facilities.Ability to handle stressful situations in a positive manner.Satisfactory employment and attendance recordAdditional InformationStatus: Permanent Full-Time Hours: Monday to Friday days, 0630-1430, 7.5 hour shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)Salary: $27.100 to $27.620 per hourDate Posted: January 13, 2026Internal applications due by:  January 20, 2026REF3093NHalton Healthcare is an equal opportunity employer who is committed to integrating diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our operations, policies and culture.
